Time for new struts/dampers?

We have a 2005 LGT with about 38K miles on it, and I'm wondering it's time to get new struts/dampers. The ride quality seems to have faded a bit over the past year. Other than the push down/rebound test, any other way of knowing if it's time?

Assuming yes, what have people found for good stock ride quality (I know, just get stock replacements...) That seems too easy. Any other thoughts?
