Zac88
Looking into buying an outback 3.0R as a second vehicle, are these engines problematic in any way?
orndog
I believe they have an issue with the pulleys eating bearings, other than that I haven't heard much. My parents have an '06 that just did the pulley thing.
GEE-OTTO
Looking into buying an outback 3.0R as a second vehicle, are these engines problematic in any way? Nope no major issues like the turbo Subaru's or head gasket issues like the 4 cyl Non turbos. Typically stout cars and never really abused since there isn't an aftermarket for that trim Legacy. sheppo9
Besides the usual wear and tear a few things off the top of my head; * Timing chain tensioners get loose and rattle - big job to replace. * Rocker gaskets leak - big-ish job. * Oil cooler o-ring leak - easy. dougall42
My 2005 3.0R Outback has either noisy timing chain or loose tensioners. I,m at 366,000km. (230,000m) Dealer is uneasy about tackling it because of the potential to shear off any number of the 38? 4mm bolts holding the front cover on. Anyone have experience of changing the TC? Any major issues?
