zcarmob
I changed my spark plugs last weekend at 95k on my 2.5i limited. When I pulled the driver side front plug wire it had oil on the boot. The back passenger side was the same way. Both plugs where down to little nubs on the center electrode. The other two plug wires where dry and the center electrodes on those plugs had a sharp point. What would be the reason for the oil on the boots? Are the valve covers leaking in those areas?
RustyShackleford
Was that the FIRST plug change ? Those cars spec it every 30K, so that's a bit long. Still dunno why the oily-boot ones had electrodes worn worse - that's weird - maybe somehow the oiliness changed the spark characteristic ?!? Did you have an MIL (from some cylinders misfiring) ? zcarmob
The car has run smooth until a few months ago. It still is running a little rough after I changed the plugs maybe the valve cover is causing a vacuum leak.
Max Capacity
Valve cover is leaking oil not vacuum. Pick up a repair manual at the auto parts store and read up on how to replace the seals. Or pay a local mechanic to do the job. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it.
