DDMan
I ordered the shifter bushings from RalliTek last week and went to install them on my 08 LGT. The first time I put everything together I was unable to shift into 1st or 3rd gear. I loosened the 12mm nut and was able to shift freely. I slowly tightened it and was able to freely shift but after about 5 mins of driving I could barely get the shifter in/out of 2nd gear. It was very stiff, but all the other gears felt great, including reverse. I got home, loosened the 12mm nut about 1 full turn and the stiffness into 2nd gear disappeared. I re-tightened it and it was still gone, however just like last time after about 5-10 mins of driving the stiffness returned. Its almost to the point that I can barely get the shifter in/out of 2nd gear. I don't want to drive with the nut loosened for obvious reasons. Any help trying to figure out what is going on would be a great help. I also noticed a contradiction between the write-up and the instructions provided by RalliTek. On this page, the "tongue" on the large washer is facing the nut side (Scroll to the last pic in post 3): http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/kartboy-sts-front-bushings-install-16708.html?t=16708&highlight=shifter+bushing+install However in RalliTek's instructions, it's facing the opposite way: http://www.rallitek.com/productfile.asp?ID=88 http://www.rallitek.com/RalliTEK-Shifter-Bushing-Kit-5spd-Manual/p-4559 (under downloads and files) Which is correct, and does anyone have any suggestions for my really stiff shifter? The bushings are the only thing done (stock shifter/knob/ect)
dingbang
I installed mine as shown in the lgt.com link with the tongue facing out. On opposed forces it shows it being install the same way (tongue out). Also, did you lube the bushing up? I believe the torque spec for it is about 13ish lbs, somewhere around there. If I remember right, having it facing the way shown in rallitek's install (depending on orientation), it can contact the upper part of the shift linkage. DDMan
I did a bit more research and found this link: http://www.rs25.com/forums/f8/t8296-shifter-bushing-install-almost-gone-bad.html Seems he had the same problem and resolution (flip it over so it faces out). And yes, I did lube it up, despite the fact RalliTek DID NOT include lube, I had some left over from a prior bushing install. Looks like I need to give RalliTek a call and tell them their instructions are wrong...
dingbang
Yeah, you were probably catching on the upper shift linkage. You do the rear shifter bushing as well?
DDMan
Nah, just the front one. I honestly didn't even know there was a rear one until I started searching for pics of this one. I have the bushings in my 02 2.5RS and when I got them, I don't remember the "rear" bushings even available.
Max Capacity
Have you done the STI tranny mount ? It hold the tranny to the cross member. $70.00 and makes a big difference in the way the car shifts. The tranny no longer moves around a lot. When you remove the stock mount, you'll see the difference. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. DDMan
Another thing I did on my 2.5RS, and while it did help it also created alot of NVH. For that car it's fine (its a track car), for my daily driver I'm trying to keep it moderately comfortable After flipping the washer everything shifts beautifully... Thanks for everyone's help!
