"Must-Do" Mods and how to keep reliablity

Recommended Posts

I just picked up a 06 Legacy GT with 104k miles. Loving the car so far; It's in immaculate shape and was meticulously maintained by the previous owner. I see people on here saying how finnicky these cars can be, and while I do like to modify my vehicles to a certain extent and always welcome more power, I wouldn't ever want that at the risk of blowing up the motor.

So, two questions:

1) Any "must-do" mods? Things that if not addressed could have a detrimental affect on the car, or simple ways to add power etc.

2) What is rule of thumb on how long these cars last? I don't plan to beat on it, and it always has and always will be kept up to date on fluid changes etc. Are the turbos shot after a certain mileage? Headgaskets? Any major things to watch out for as I have the car would be appreciated.

Welcome,

After over three years of research, and searching for the perfect SoCal LGT, I recently purchased my LGT wagon as well.

Sounds like you scored a nice one!

There are a couple good catless uppipes in the 05-09 member classifieds rt now!

Keep in mind that bigger diameter UP isn't better on stock setup...

Could likely score a catless aftermarket one or a STI up for cheap!

I purchased a perrin 1.75 up and wrapped it w header wrap.

I also purchased an aftermarket, oil free, washable air filter replacement from infamousperformance.net Oiled air filters will foul your MAF.

Keep up with OCI every 3k, diff fluid OCI 30k, run good gas, and don't launch it, and your car will last. My 05 just turned 150k on original turbo.

Most importantly!!: if the original owner did not replace the timing belt, thermostat, and water pump do that ASAP!!

Have fun! Peace
