Jazer
Hey all! Here is my 2006 OB wagon. I recently acquired this car from a family member. Meticulously maintained with 75k miles on it & every maintenance record kept, etc.. It's in excellent condition. It is my first Subaru, and even tho it's technically the base model, I'm loving it! I could not pass up the deal I got on it. I plan to do at least a few things to it, but with having my share of project cars over the years... I'd like to keep it reliable and not go too crazy... but I still want to make it my own. I can't NOT touch it Here it is when I got it, right after a wash/wax First thing I did was fit my Yakima rack to it Then I got it tinted. 35% front windows/sun strip & 20% rear windows I had an extra double din radio lying around and was dying for it's aux port so I went ahead and purchased the new face plate to fit it and installed that. I purchased an extra grill and went ahead with a fun little project for it, here are the progress pics for that. Tried out some mesh I had and didn't like it, so went and got a different style... looks much better (old top, new bottom) Installed pics. Big improvement over stock grill, IMO. That's it for now. Will update with further changes. I'd like to pull the headlights and black them out a bit (very much like the stock black version, I don't like the full chrome version)... Also thinking about getting some hellas for behind that grill and some RA mudflaps. I got some for our other car, an Evo, and I like them. I have these wheels that I was thinking about putting on it... they are being pulled off my old project car that's being returned to stock. Kind of looking to trade them for a different style tho. Im thinking polished would look good on the OB with it's chrome accents... They are a 42mm offset too so I was hoping to stay closer to the stock offset. Opinions? Thanks for looking
Heffernan
What size are the wheels/tires? I'm partial to dark colored wheels and I like that look. They kinda remind me of a set of Gram Lights. A good drop + those wheels with look good IMO.
Jazer
17x7.5 and I'd swap my tires over to them that are mounted on the stock wheels. Forget the size. Don't plan to lower the OB atm.. My other car was pretty slammed on coilovers and it's kinda nice taking a break from that, lol.
Jazer
Kinda iffy on the 42mm offset too. Don't want to risk premature wheel bearing wear.
Jazer
Decided to pull apart my headlights and paint them, so here are some of the progress pics & finished pics. SUPER happy with the outcome. I love how everything came together.

Leviman
Stock offset is 48mm, 42 isn't that far off IMO. I'm running 40mm offset and it doesn't dart around or anything.
Jazer
Yeah I know thats what it is... but I was just concerned with premature wheel bearing failure. I know it's only about 6mm with those two, but this is my reliable car, I don't want to mess anything up early. I've been down that road, haha. Leviman
Well I'm running a 40mm offset, love the fitment. But we'll see how my wheel bearing fair, I think they'll be alright.
NoRoadtrippin
I know there are some other threads on the grill job, but can you talk a bit about your process for filling in where you did the dremel work? I'm not sure any of the other threads really lay it out and you definitely did a nice job.
Jazer
Of course. Thank you so much btw I didn't follow a thread, I just went for it. I didn't even realize there were threads. So as you can see by the pictures, I dremeled it out.. smoothed it as best I could with the dremel, getting rid of anything sticking up.. I then took some pieces of mesh and JB welded it to the back side of all of the holes created by the dremel and let it cure. This is the backbone for the filler. I then just glopped some body filler in there, smoothing it the best I could with a putty knife. That was a pain in the ass, especially doing so many small spots at once, If you are patient (unlike me) you could focus one area at a time, lol.... I let it dry, sanded it, sprayed it with some filler primer, added more filler to the pits/lows, etc... sanded it, sprayed it again, and so on... I think I went through that process 4 times before it was smooth enough and the edge was clean enough, etc... then I primed/painted/cleared. I used the filler primer as a tool to clearly see all the low spots and help fill in tiny imperfections. I found this method worked well. The layers weren't too thick cause I virtually sanded it entirely off each time re smoothing the filler I added, etc. Im not in love with the spray can paint job, it's a little orange peely, but it's minimal, and only I would notice it, lol. I also wish It was a little less glossy, I used a flat black and it still had a ton of shine to it, I was surprised.. but overall it looks great and I love the new look it gave to the front end. Side note, I used black gutter guard from Lowes for the grill.. Perfect for it.
Jazer
::Photoshop:: Decided I am going to put my spare set of wheels on. Why not, right? I ordered some hubcentric rings & some new lugnuts. I didn't want to go with black wheels on this car (I did that look already, on the car I just returned to stock and pulled these wheels off of)... but I don't feel like spending the money on another set of rims... so I'm using what I have. They have a natural flat black finish, but I might end up painting or dipping them once I get the tires mounted.
Jazer
Had my tires swapped over to my F05s and installed on the Subey today.. I'm pretty happy. I like it a little better than I thought I would

xtea
How did you re-chrome the grille? My Chrome is peeling and I am not sure what I want to do about it.
Jazer
I didn't re chrome it, I taped it off when I worked on it. Look into chrome paint. Maybe that's an option for you?
