Sidney07
I'm getting ready to do my first oil change and was wondering if it's the same filter as my 03 Legacy, as I still have one left after trading in my old car. After opening the little trap door in the big plastic shield (what's with that anyway? just makes it harder to get to stuff ) to get to the filter, I can see that it's black and not white, for what that's worth. And while I'm at it...had a K&N air filter in my 00 and 03 Legacy's. Want to put one in my 07 as well. Is the filter in the box near the passenger fender or is it in the same place as my 03...just above the intake manifold. Geez, these new cars:( Having said that...I really do LOVE my new car
CMull123
As for the oil filter, dunno. I'm sure someone else will though. The air filter is in the box near the passenger fender. It prolly would have taken you less time to look then to get online and write this post.
arumis555
Info related to Legacy and Outback , I have not investigated the issue for other models , but have suspition that could be the same. Regarding oil filters: below are Subaru part numbers for engine oil filters that has been used since 1999 ( Legacy and Outback) . 15208AA024 - 2,5L , NA engines , body model B12 from 1999-02 up to 2003-06-30 , filter 15208AA060 can be used instead of 15208AA024 . 15208AA060 - 2,5L , NA engines , body models B12, B13 up to now. 15208AA031 - for all models with 3.0L engine 15208AA080 - 2,5L turbo engine from 2003-11-01 to 2004-06-30 , filter 15208AA100 can be used instead of 15208AA080. 15208AA100 - 2,5L turbo engine 2004-07-01 - up to now. Oil filter color is not important. 15208AA031 and 15208AA060 has the same external dimentions. Difference is in valve opening pressure and filtering area ( also there are some observations that seal form can differ too - flat or oring ) 15208AA024/15208AC060 filters ( for NA engines ) can not be used on turbo engines due to fact that 15208AA024/15208AC060 on turbo is too close to the turbo down pipe and possibly cause an unnecessary heating of the oil filter. Also 15208AA060 can not be used insted of 15208AA031 , bacause filter 15208AA031 for H6 engine has filtering area 201 sq/in VS 141 sq/in filter 15208AA060 for NA engines. Using the 5208AA060 insted of 15208AA031 filter may cause it to become contaminated faster and allow the bypass valve to open, allowing unfiltered oil to circulate through the engine. pillboy
My dealer currently sells me the same one (...100) for both my '05 turbo and my '02 NA. It is still ugly.
arumis555
My dealer currently sells me the same one (...100) for both my '05 turbo and my '02 NA. It's OK to use 15208AA080/100 instead of 15208AA060 , bot not in opposite. Filtration area for 15208AA060 is 760cm2 anf for 15208AA080/100 is 800cm2 , but 15208AA080/100 is smaller. kenchan
im runing a Mobil1 M110 on my 2.5NA motor. im going to try K@N next time as that filter is deep in there between the pipes and hard to get my oil wrench on it. HP-1008. KN comes with that nut on the butt which is a nice convenience.
