Energyblue98
Why in the world are the 05-09 subaru legacy's so heavy? around 3500lbs? while the wrx of the same year was around 3000lbs? I know it's suppose to be a slightly more "luxurious" version of the wrx, but 500 lbs? I've looked around and cant seem to find any obvious weight reduction mods that don't take away from the luxury of the car other than removing the spare tire and jack, some lightweight wheels, all of that MIGHT get rid of 80lbs? GTTuner
I don't think the WRX is that light. My GT weighed in at 3580 with me and a half tank of fuel on board.
GTEASER
2014 Impreza weighs +/- 3000 lbs per cars101.com. The WRX is a significantly smaller car with less sound deadening, smaller wheels and tires, etc. GTEASER's 2012 Legacy GT - Sold GTEASER's 2009 XTeaser - Sold GTEASER's 1992 Legacy SS - Sold
KartRacerBoy
Size of car. Crash requirements. AWD. I thought of getting a Volvo V70R instead, but that was over 4,000 lbs. But mostly just modern car. I do miss my 1500 lb 73 Honda Civic. Most fun car I've ever owned.
rob-2
Do you know what goes into making a car luxurious? Lard.
Energyblue98
But not that much lard... Are there any common weight reduction's for this car?
GTEASER
Aftermarket wheels, strip out the interior and as much custom carbon fiber as you can afford. ....becuz racecar. GTEASER
.....as much as you want to lighten your wallet. The ratio of dollar bills to pounds of weight reduction is 100 fold. KCwagon
^ funny, but not true. I guess let me ask this, what's the weight of the shell and the engine? Why don't you buy a WRX ?
Energyblue98
Insurance costs, and i hate the douchebag rep that comes with them, and theyre not nearly as nice. Im not looking for speed, i have my 400whp 2300lb zx2 for that. I know i wont get the legacy that fast, i have no intentions on removing any of the interior on the legacy because i still want that luxury factor, i just want to know the potential of weight loss for when/if i go to autox for a day or something with it. JmP6889928
The LGT is heavy because that's how Subaru built them.
idiot4hire
I autox mine all the time full interior and stomach just fine. If you want to autox seat time is the best mod you can do. Do a few autox and decide what you want to mod.
ibr_adam09
I know the lgt leather seats are damn pita heavy.
baconbits
Curb weight on a 2006 Spec.B is 3391 according to Car and Driver. My coworker's 04 STI is around 3260. That's the difference between a full tank of gas in the STI and the Legacy on empty. Sure as hell doesn't seem like a whole lot for more leg room, leather, heated and power seats, sun roof, heated wipers, bigger trunk AND better gas mileage. NewLegGT67
I thought the lightest 05/06 Legacy GT was the non Limited (no sun roof) with manual trans at 3300 lbs. I'm probably the only person that has Wu-Tang Clan and Paul McCartney on their mp3.

baconbits
It is. The 6 speeds are hella heavy... like 170lb or something. The 5 speeds are closer to 100.
rob-2
Of course I was joking but in reality you'd have to gut the cabin and strip some things engine bay wise to see any major savings. For starters the trunk and hood weigh a shit tone. Alu/carbon would but a weight savings. But unless you're actually fast OP it's laughable to try and make this car into a race car. You need to remember it's a pretty bad platform to get serious with. Suspension, chassis and brakes are all subpar. Be careful how much coin you drop into this car. KartRacerBoy
Why don't you buy RACECAR ? This. Cz OP is, um, silly.
baconbits
Our hoods are already aluminum as far as I know. My magnetic stick flashlight won't stick to it.
KartRacerBoy
The rest of the car is carbon fiber made by McLaren.
