Heytiggr
I have seen a few choices here for yellow foglights. Does anyone have any information and the best choices? I have seen: H3 Ion Crystal from PIAA GE Tungsram Gold Selective Yellow from Candlepower H3 Gold bulbs from Daniel Stern Or are they basically the same other than price difference? The PIAA are about $25 ea from SubaruParts.com. The Dan Sterns are $13.50 and the GE's from Candlepower are $11.
automaticsti
You can spend a wad on yellow bulbs each time they go out or... you can just get some yellow lense films and not have to buy any fancy bulbs...http://www.jinsu-power.com/index.php?cPath=33_63
fatbastard
I thought Daniel Stern worked for or owned Candlepower??? At least I think the order I placed with him shipped with paperwork saying Candlepower.

Also does anyone know where I can get pre-paint covers to replace the black ones? All I found were more common colours, but nothing for Diamond Gray Metallic. I saw the covers were only $17. Or maybe you take them over to a body shop and they can paint them for cheap.
automaticsti
the website says that the fog tint itself is 15 dollars,(look on the pulldown at the bottom)..and yes its is a film that covers the outer lense of the fog light.
Spec B
I have both the yellow lens film and the Piaa's..there is a very noticeable difference between running the yellow film with stock bulbs and the yellow film with the piaa's. With the Piaa's more light is put down and it is a more "yellow" color and therefore a stronger contrast...I like it.

Spec B
^^ Our cars are very much alike... Same Eyelids, lip, fogs...I think we are even running the same type of coilovers? BC Racing?

You won't find DGM pre-painted ones since that color wasn't introduced until '07.
dazzen
I have the piaas, they look fine but our fog lights dont really project all that much. I would say the change is far more cosmetic then functional no matter what brand you go with. I chose Piaa because they have the best reputation....also changing the bulbs was more involved then I thought, lucky I had my friends ramps to use. automaticsti
^^^ Yes replacing bulbs is kind of a pain, remember, you can acess the passenger bulb through the factory intake hole, but youll have to get under the car for the driver side
VXCL
i run the piaas, but those ge's might be worth a try as piaa is $$$. yeah our fogs arent the best but they do work and even with a xenon retro the piaa ion yellows really light up the foreground much much better especially in the rain. orginal post http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14862 output pics (you can see there is much more light hitting the ground and brighter vs stock) http://mywebpages.comcast.net/vxcl/legacy/IMG_3780.JPG bulb and package http://mywebpages.comcast.net/vxcl/legacy/IMG_3767.JPG model number http://mywebpages.comcast.net/vxcl/legacy/IMG_3771.JPG close http://mywebpages.comcast.net/vxcl/legacy/IMG_3791.JPG peace MAYHEM #122/22 STS NNJR SCCA AUTOX4U.COM XENON RETRO GUIDE
Heytiggr
For those of you running the PIAA fog lights, what is the best deal you were able to find? I looked at PIAA directly through their website and a pair of these bulbs is a bit over $50. I don't have a problem paying for the quality but that doesn't mean that I won't also try to find a deal if one is out there! Thanks for the help. Gire
That's a lot of dough to spend on non-HID fog light bulbs. If you insist on the PIAA brand that's one thing, but there are much cheaper alternatives out there that give you the same performance. I'm in the Auto lighting business and I can tell you for a fact that PIAA never ranks near the top in performance tests. They have a great marketing thing going and it's fashionable to buy their stuff (like Monster cable, if you will) but other bulbs out there will give you great results too. Most bulbs from Osram and Philips rank higher in output. I have recommended EuroLite H3 Euro yellow bulbs to others on this forum, and have them in my wagon now. No, I don't work for Eurolite, but I did get a set for 10 bucks and they've been great ever since. Something like this: http://www.autobarn.net/eurolite-yellow-bulb.html

gershon
Wanna do it for under $10? The picture makes the yellow look dull because I took it with my phone but they look pretty nice. I have got a lot of compliments. Find some film to achieve the color you are looking for. I bought some "gel" from a shop that has photo supply's as well as supplies for movies and plays. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h163/gershon23/IMG_0604.jpg Find some clear double sided carpet tape and use the gel for your lights as well. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h163/gershon23/IMG_0628.jpg Yellow fogs http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h163/gershon23/IMG_0631.jpg I also made the yellow part of the tail light red. Heytiggr
GIRE - Thanks for the input. I am definitely looking to go with the colored bulb not a film. I was thinking the PIAA not for their brand name only but because I have heard they have great longevity. I am willing to pay more if the bulb lasts significantly longer. Do you know if the bulbs you recommend last as long or longer or is it a non-issue?
Heytiggr
And in what way does PIAA not perform as well - lighting output, longevity, something else? Also - I just looked at those bulbs and it says NOT approved for DOT. What makes these different? They will still plug right into my H3 fogs, right? GYD23
What is your reasoning for wanting yellow fog lights? If it is for looks then why not go go for the film?
spyguy
i think i may just try the eruolite bulbs.... heytiggr, is the output on your eurolite bulbs comparable to that of a piaa?
Heytiggr
My reasoning is from previous experience with other cars...the yellow light works better in rain and fog for my eye. I do indeed like the way it looks too but I really do prefer the yellow light for how my eyes see at night. So I want the yellow bulbs not white bulbs going through a yellow film. I don't want to think about making sure the film stays on, or unchipped or anything and the better light output power of the light not having to go through one more filter or layer. spyguy - it is not me that has the eurolights. It was GIRE, a few posts earlier that recommended them, so I was asking for more info.
