Gohmer1
I've seen the bajillion posts about people tinting their lights in a dark color, but has anyone tried tinting them red - kind of like the silver legacy that shows up at the top of this message board... I think the main thing about these lights that looks bad is that they have a chrome outline...it looks tacky and almost like altezzas from certain angles. Are any of the vendors offering the tail tints in red? Garret
Brady
what are you on about? The Legacy at the top of the forum has tail light EXACTLY like the ones on my car!
Deer Killer
I'd settle for a mild smoke tint to take care of that, like the legacy in the upper right..
Tronix
If you want them all red just buy Testors candy red paint... its a nice transparent red. I've done a few sets of taillights with it. just slap a couple coats on. I am confused though.. gohmer has me searching for a silver legacy at the top with red tails? I see a white legacy with stock tails.. and Deer Killer sees a legacy in the upper right? I just see the word Legacy there. where am I? -Tronix(c0mp455)GT for more pics and info... http://angevine.org/legacy/legacy.html

SnarlyMarley
This idea would be great for us wagon owners. You can clear the headlights but not the tails (I think).
Gohmer1
It's tint.. look at the reverse lights.. Yeah, but I'm not convinced that there isn't some red tint there too...

Deer Killer
There's always that "tint" spray paint. Spray enough on to get just the darkness you want. I'm afraid though without a lot of experience it will: 1. Look like crap. 2. Start peeling and flaking. I've seen it done with good results though. Gohmer1
Yeah, my guess would be that you'd have to clearcoat it hardcore too. I'm skeered to do that, until someone else does it for me.
AKLGT
www.importequipment.com has the red tint you can get in sheets. i think he charges $12 for 2 sheets. can't remember. i want the same thing, to red out the rear tails on my LGT sedan. i hate that plastic looking white or clear around the edges. Wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle yeah!!!
IwannaSportSedan
if you guys are tinting the sedan tails all red, are you also tinting the reverse lights red? One of two things... either that will be a really bizzare reverse light, or if you could somehow fab some other white reverse lights apart from the tail lights, the red tinted original reverse lights wired to a different switch (or even just the front fog circuit) would make some interesting rear fogs. Gohmer1
I would imagine if it is spray tint, the reverse light would be taped off. And if it's a sheet, it could just be cut out...
IwannaSportSedan
Actually, I kind of like the idea of them being rear fogs. One could even get the JDM tails, and red-out the whole thing, have upper and lower tails, upper brake lights, reverse lights become fogs, and also red turn indicators in the middle. (next to the former reverse lights) but I have no idea how to integrate alternate reverse lights. Perhaps getting LGT wagon reverse lights, and modifying the trunk tail panel (between the tail lights, from the license plate lights downward) to accept them. That would probably not be an easy modification.

On a side note - the link you sent is for thin transparent vinyl (that a sign shop would use). It is designed to be used in signage and WITH lamination of UV protective clear coat. It does not offer any impact protection at all. I know you are talking about using it for the tails, but I though obliged to point out what the omit from their site. http://www.hot-subaru.com http://www.pcpcdallas.com
KevinSoD
Oh, and the fact they are 3mil VS. our 17mil film... and called a sticker... I searched through their site and they also have carbon fiber look sticker material available - also 3mil. For those thinking about getting some for what ever reason know that the mfg says "Like multilens, the outdoor life of these vinyls without lamination is approximately 6-9 months" http://www.hot-subaru.com http://www.pcpcdallas.com
