Mega Users LieutenantDan Posted May 10, 2011 Mega Users Share Posted May 10, 2011 Alright, so today I got my car back after being broken down since August. I had a suspension set up ready to go on but the engine spun a rod bearing. So I finally had the block replaced and then the suspension was installed. I got a set of JDM GT Rev. A Bilsteins and a set of STi Pink lowering springs. The stance of my car in stock form already had a saggy rear. Since this has been installed, the effect has been extremely magnified, to an extent that I didn't even know was possible. I went from a 1 finger rear gap and a 3 finger front gap to a 1 finger rear overlap and a 4-5 finger front gap. I also had 3/8" saggy butt spacers installed. The rear struts don't appear to be blown either. I don't have part numbers for any of the parts and of course the 2 FS threads I purchased the parts from are no longer hosting the pictures. The only lead I have is one of the Pink springs has an orange and a yellow dot on one of the front springs. I found a list of part numbers that correlate to the colored dots on the springs at one time but of course I can't find it now. I was really hoping this would go smoothly but this car seems to resist that. Just seeing if anyone else has seen this, something like this, or just has some general wisdom to drop on me. SubaruTim
You sure you have an engine in there? Haha, kidding. Yeah, that's doesn't look right, nor does it look good. I wish i could help you out.
tito_b0y
Whoa. That's some saggy butt you've got there! Kidding aside, might I suggest removing and inspecting the rears? I know it's not a solution, but it's a start! 2006 SWP 3.0R 5EAT VDC BBQ 2008 OBP 2.5i 4EAT BBQ [RIP]

lieutenantcolumbo
So did you buy the Spec B top hats like you're supposed to or did you reuse your originals? Think Fred Beans and Rallitek carries them: http://www.rallitek.com/Legacy-Spec-B-Front-Upper-Strut-Mount/p-4290 http://www.fredbeansparts.com/index.php/subaru-legacy-spec-b-front-strut-mounts.html Also iirc the back probably should have had the 1/2" spacer. Wrong top hats and spacers, that's my guess. May also want to check out this thread: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/bilstein-hd-review-54289.html?t=54289&highlight=bilstein+suspension Good luck. Mega Users LieutenantDan Posted May 10, 2011 Author Mega Users Share Posted May 10, 2011 There aren't any tophats that you're "supposed" to use. Also an extra 1/8" in the rear isn't going to do anything. Sure the JDM tophats slightly raise the front but the rear sagging so low is what is making the front point skyward. Either the springs are on upside down or the rears are actually blown. My only other option at this point is to put the JDM Rev A rear springs on and hope that levels it out
GTTuner
You need Spec b tophats and the 1/2 inch butt spacers. I've installed a bunch of these. Do not install the conical washers under the top hats that come out of the LGT struts. Trust me on this.
Mega Users LieutenantDan Posted May 10, 2011 Author Mega Users Share Posted May 10, 2011 Man, that really would have been handy to know from the get go. The guy I bought them from didn't use spec b top hats but he also didn't have the pinks on there. Are the other top hats necessary only when using lowering springs? I reckon I'll go ahead and order those today. Thanks for the help and clarification for my stubborn ass.
scoobydoobie
You only need Spec.B top hats for the front struts. Can re-use stock KYB tophats on the rear.

It should sit more/less like this when finished (with a 3/8" rear butt spacer): http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii287/bac52/IMG_20110207_100049.jpg Flip Key Development Thread "Genius may have its limitations, but stupidity is not thus handicapped." - E. scoobydoobie
Here's mine on Bilstein HDs/wagon pinks, no spacers. Slight saggy butt but doesn't really bother me. http://img860.imageshack.us/img860/1246/sb04.jpg
Mega Users LieutenantDan Posted May 10, 2011 Author Mega Users Share Posted May 10, 2011 Awesome! Thanks everyone for the responses and the pictures. I just ordered these from FBP. Spec B Front Strut Mounts Should be here Thursday!!!! I'm going to leave the 3/8" spacers as is for now. I'm still wondering how I missed that part. Hopefully this will keep other people from doing the same thing I did.
