Chief_Wiggum
Been slowly working on getting the (semi-budget) system installed in my LGT wagon. Reading throught Manville's threads, I realized there was no way I could do something that nice, but there are a lot of cool things you can do without spending a whole lot of cash. - cover the holes in the doors - fab cool shock tower fuse holder - hinged amp rack in tire well Components: - Stock head unit - Audiovox XR9 XM radio - JL Audio Cleansweep - JL Audio e6450 6 channel amp - (4) CDT Audio CL-6EX coaxials - (1) JL Audio CS110RG-W0 - 10" W0 in a sealed box I'm about 80% done, will post more pictures as I have them. laying out the amp rack with my super-mega-billion watt amp http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=14895&stc=1&d=1139948089 Used a piece of rectangular aluminum tube, steel hinge, and 1/8" flat stock aluminum for amp rack hinge. Base is 1/2" MDF. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=14896&stc=1&d=1139948089 Bought a forward and reverse harness with 14 pins and made up a plug and play harness for the stock head unit to Cleansweep. Bought the harnesses from David here: http://ae64.com/WRXharness.htm Great guy and everything went smoothly. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=14897&stc=1&d=1139948089 rear spacer ring is 1/2" MDF. Foam between it and door. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=14898&stc=1&d=1139948429 http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=14899&stc=1&d=1139948429 Front rings are 1" MDF http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=14900&stc=1&d=1139948429 Door - foam - spacer - foam - speaker - foam - door panel http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=14901&stc=1&d=1139948429 Used some 1/4" foam as a barrier between the vapor shield and the door panel to see if it cuts down on road noise. Seems to work pretty well. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=14903&stc=1&d=1139948429 Fuse holder mount. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=14902&stc=1&d=1139948429 http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=14904&stc=1&d=1139948429
Chief_Wiggum
Just a few wires... http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=14905&stc=1&d=1139948806
Boulderguy
I'd hardly call that a budget system, you've got some respectable stuff there! Anyway, looks great so far, if you can resist the temptation to cut corners when you're 90% done (at about 3AM) you'll have a kickass setup. Good luck. PGT
Much more elegant than my install, and I consider myself anal. Good jerb!!!
Boulderguy
I'm detail-oriented until after midnite, then I become "efficient...."
Chief_Wiggum
Finally finished up the install. Everything went smoothly except for one thing. Got everything hooked up and fired up the system...nothing. Traced the problem to the Cleansweep power harness. The turnon lead right near the inline fuse holder had no wire inside the insulation! I couldn't believe it. Replaced the segment of wire and everything's running great. Got a couple more things to clean up, but it's basically done. I made some custom bushings for the thumbscrews, looks pretty good I think. The amp rack is painted with some wall texture paint I picked up at Lowes and then painted black over that. Overall, it sounds fantastic. Loud and clean all the way up to the max. I'm really impressed with the amp and the CDT co-axials. Plenty of bass even from the small sealed 10". PGT
nice and clean! Better than mine. It's the area I would like to redo if/when I get the time.

direavenger
Components: - Stock head unit - Audiovox XR9 XM radio - JL Audio Cleansweep - JL Audio e6450 6 channel amp - (4) CDT Audio CL-6EX coaxials - (1) JL Audio CS110RG-W0 - 10" W0 in a sealed box If you don't mind me asking, how much did your e6450 cost, and where did you get it? My future system will be startlingly similar to yours. I am slowly accumulating components, and I thought I'd ask if you found any deals before I get screwed on the price later on. Brandon-K
With that harness you bought, do you still need to get another harness from a stereo shop? Or does this replace that? Very awesome install
Boulderguy
Very clean, nice work! Enjoy.
Chief_Wiggum
I bought both the forward and the reverse harness. One plugs into the car, the other into the radio. Solder the leads together, except for the ones you want to run back and you have a plug and play setup. No other harness required. What you see in the pictures is the completed setup I made. The parts I purchased have ~ 6" leads.
DWM
Do you have problems with Heat buildup under the deck? Several installers here in Houston have discouraged me from doing that.
Boulderguy
I did, but I have particularly hot amps. A few companies are coming out with full-range class-D amps this year, they'll run very cool & should work well in hot climates like yours. I know of the Eclipse digital series, there may be others. Chief_Wiggum
No problems as of yet. I've driven it for a couple hours on the freeway with the stereo really cranking with no issues. It was warm, but I could still comfortably touch it. Of course, it's still reletively cool here so we'll see when summer hits.
bennetb01
How does the volume work with the cleansweep? Do you use the stock radio volume or a seperate remote? Oh yeah... nice install!
Chief_Wiggum
Sorry, forgot to post pics of the CS volume knob. Since I never use the ash tray, I just removed it and mounted the knob in there. Rigged up the door to not open when you push the knob. I like the knob there and it doesn't look half bad I guess. I do with the knob had a higher quality feel to it. Works fine, but feels cheap. mevanvt
Nice install. Sorry to bring this thread back but did you keep the spare tire in the well under the amps?
Chief_Wiggum
Thanks! I sure did. It's under the amp rack, which flips up for access.
