Luchin
I'm curious about what people are actually removing from the exhaust system when they are referring to the resonator. Is it part # 22 in the diagram? http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee353/josephanthony01/Exhaust.jpg
tjbev21
leave the resonator and delete the mufflers you will be a lot happier (2cents)
Luchin
LOL. Are you suggesting I take the mufflers out and run a straight pipe? I don't want the car to sound like it's been riced out. Completely stock but parts are on the way.
scoobydoobie
Yes, that is the resonator.
Connect4
Where did you get the exploded view of the exhaust system? Do you have one of the AWD system because I've always been curious on how it is laid out?

Max Capacity
leave the resonator and delete the mufflers you will be a lot happier (2cents) Do this you'll like it. These engines sound great. I have pictures of my deletes here somewhere. At least pull them off and start the car. If you don't like it, put them back on. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. joeleodee
Does the OP have a NA car because that diagram is a nonturbo exhaust. Still basically the same from the cat back though. Remove all components from T4 back for the best sound.
bmx045
I deleted the mufflers, only running the resonator, sounds awesome. went to my local custom exhaust shop and told them to weld tips after the flanges straight out the back. It's not even that loud.
GEE-OTTO
I would chop the resonator ad replace it with straight thru resonator like a Borla XR-1 or MagnaFlow Round type muffler. It has a good amount of insulation to prevent drone.
GEE-OTTO
Even better is that EZ36R exhaust diagram nice!
05_2.5
what would be the difference in sound from deleting the resonator compared deleting the mufflers?

Living Legacy
How easy is it to remove the mufflers? Someone post pics/vids! Two bolts per muffler and take them off the hangers... look at the exploded picture above. Or google hogzawst (youtube), that's what I'm currently rocking and it allows me to hear when to shift without drawing unwanted attention I removed everything from T4 back and put a dump on (90 degree bend and an exhaust clamp), it sounded great but was way too loud for a drive home from the bars... Jimblaz
its super easy. Just two bolts on each and pull it off the hangers. Those bolts can be a tad corroded and super hard to break loose.
