Nonvteclegacy
Would it be plug and play for the 2007 mp3/aux with the knobs in my 2.5i? or is the wiring different? thanks
lejjasie
What??? I thought the "audio" unit (including the changer and the radio) were all a distinct single unit behind the surface and not connected to the climate control. U r saying that on 2007s and later (GTs) the radio and AC in the back is all one big box?
lejjasie
I can understand on the front - it's all one big plastic piece top to bottom - but in the back i don't think the GTs have a climate control unit that is integrated with the mp3 and CD changer....is it? laz
^^^ Yes it is. X ---
Nonvteclegacy
No No I put it wrong. The new 2007 and up legacy non gt's have a single disk player with mp3/aux. It doesnt have the digital climate control. It has the manual knobs. The Climite control isnt an issue. Its the wiring harness that I'm worried about. http://home.mchsi.com/~luv4eternity/cd_player.jpg
laz
All Legacies with automatic climate control are integrated with the radio system. Only the SE 2.5i has mechanical controls, and a separate radio. This has been discussed here a million times. So if you want to stick a GT radio in your SE, then it will not work. Where are you confused? Nonvteclegacy
I HAVE A 2.5I NO AUTOMACTIC CLIMATE CONTROL. Look at the picture will that work in my 2.5i? or is the wiring different?
lejjasie
I rest my case. Yea - i hijacked NonVTecLegacy's original question. Sorry. Question above still open for discussion...
laz
OK, so you have a 2007 MP3 player with knobs, and want to put it in the 05 with knobs? If so I do not see why it would not work. The plug should be essentially the same. But if you have knobs, why not go aftermarket? Was that the question? Still early for me! X ---
lejjasie
You answered the right question X - I would like to do the same - but in my case i would like to keep the stock look and feel - hence aftermarket isn't a good option for me.

SVXdc
I'm in the process of getting an 07 radio but [the seller is] in another state. I wanna know if it works first before I buy it. The 14-pin power/speaker connection has been the same on all Subarus from 1995 and up (except the SVX). So yes, the 2007 radio will work in your 2005. However, the other sockets on the back of the 2007 radio may be different. Does your car have the OEM subwoofer (under one of the front seats)? If so, you may have to make a small modification to the sub's harness to make it work with the new radio.

As far as the other conectors I believe they look different. Check out the links and compare the two. There is also a plugin that the 05 doesnt have right above the black plug on the right. 2007 deck http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3AWNA%3AMT%3A12&viewitem=&item=190137695268 2005 deck http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/05-Subaru-Legacy-OE-CD-Radio-Climate-Control-Unit_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38641QQihZ009QQitemZ190139091985

bendite
unless you are really wanting to keep it stock looking, there is always this option... http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b179/aboone1970/car33.jpg When you buy a head unit from Crutchfield and use their online wizard, they send you the faceplate for the 2.5i legacy for free. Mine is a 2006...it fit pretty good, the color match was super close(not perfect) and was super easy to install. You can see that the seams are a little off. I am sure I could get them to line up better if I really cared.
lejjasie
I can understand what's in the second box from top - that's your main head unit. What's in the top hole? the wire and duh.. what?
