NutBucket
nice find! does it replace the key immobilizer too? No. This is literally just a push button. You can find something with the same functionality from an electronic component distributor for under $10.
patriki
What its supposed to do: You unlock your car with a FOB. Once inside the car, there's no place to stick a key into. The car senses the same FOB that you have just used to unlock it with and thus allows you to start the car with the push of a button. Should you unlock the car and then put your FOB back inside the house (for example), the car will not start. Why it won't work: This is meant for JDM models. Stuff we don't get in our USDM's

urs1ne
Hey, if im the one driving I will probably be the only one with the foresight to hit that button in time. I guess I could just make an ejector pod, to get everyone out in time like the astronauts have. ^ n00bs below this line

Stuff we don't get in our USDM's this is what i had in mind, like toyota's smart key or BMW's keyless proximity system. is it possible to get a proximity sensor that we could put in-line to the power wire to the button(cuts the circit when fob sensor too far away) and the other sensor small enough to fit in our current fob? lilbrudder
i don't see it being any harder than a jazzy jeff or steering wheel controls mod. only thing is finding the proximity transponder relay. any one should be able to do it with a walk through. come on you electrical engineers, step it up. You're neglecting to realize that every key has a different chip ID which entails the installer needing to know the frequency and RFID of the key for whatever particular year and model he's working with. The Subaru key/remote design has changed at least 4 times in the last few years that I can recall. Furthermore, pairing up with these security chips isn't exactly an easy feat considering their whole purpose is to prevent duplication to save your car from getting stolen. Besides they're only engineered to work at the distance from the ignition to the sensor (where ever that may be), not outside the car to the sensor. lilbrudder
cut your individual chip out of the key, mount it near the key cylinder. the new prox sensor/relay will act like OEM immobilizer.

CzarDestructo
cut your individual chip out of the key, mount it near the key cylinder. the new prox sensor/relay will act like OEM immobilizer. You can't just cut it out, it's part of the remote and is an active transmitter as far as I know. Meaning you'd have to give up a remote and leave it in your car at all times and also replace it's battery from time to time. Depends on your make and year.
