Poor mans wanna be equal length headers/down pipe for N/A

Recommended Posts

$35 so far and looking to be ~$60 total to finish the whole exhaust.

I'm going to run 2.25" all the way, reuse the stock muffler, and may or may not omit the second cat. depending on how this sounds.

2nd Gen. header trimmed, 1.75" to (right side 2" for near 90 degree bend to collector) 3" collector eventually to 2.25" with omitted cat.

The 1.75" coming from the head's are equal length once meeting the collector and meet dead center under the transmission.

This is just the mock up,more pipe to be cut and welding. This will bolt up to the second cat's. flange for easy swapping.

interesting, i like the effort. should be pretty good when its done

Thanks.

I would have done complete to the ports but I don't trust my welding enough to do it. I'll finish it off with exhaust wrap once all done.

The second cat is usually the one that

removes all the noise-barriers in my

experience. When I removed my front

the sound was the same. When the

middle was gone it was a night and day

difference.

Could you describe the difference after removing the second cat.?

Both performance wise and sound but mostly sound.

Not wanting anything loud or buzzy at highway speed but looking for smooth, healthy, factory sounding flow.

After removing the first I heard or felt

no improvement, but once I took the

second one out the sound was much

fuller and it had a little more pickup, but

the car hasnt been running well so it was

more of an alternative, free, solution to

try and fix the issue rather than for fun.

If it was running better I could tell you

more. I would make sure your muffler is

in good shape if you're gonna remove

both cats though. You'll want some

backpressure left.

Finished for now. Please excuse the unsightly leak. Looks worse than the 1/4 quart it leaks in 3000 miles.

o2 placement. At best 5 degrees off center but now heat up time is significantly less. Stock when cold could take several minutes to heat. Figured with the air flow in such an exposed area overheating would not me an issue.

Lastly a different angle with more bubble gum exposure.

Couple tacks after placement where the 2.25' meets the 2' at cat. and I've been very pleased thus far.

No more small exhaust leaks, shield rattle, smoother throttle response with low end pick up improved.

Gas mileage checks out 31mpg when not flogging it out. When at any cruising speed exhaust noise cant be noted.

Pulling above 2k lets on a subtle hint something healthy is there wanting. While creeping to 3k only makes you want more.

No ricer sound just a well muffled boxer growl. I'll see to recording some audio/video.

Total cost $35

Nice job, man :D Looks pretty sweet!

I'll be anxious to hear a sound clip.

Thx man. I'll use my laptop and a $12 mic I got. Not sure how it will come out.

Will try to do drive by's and tunnel/over passes along with idle, free rev. and take off.

1994bc,

I have a buddy who owns a 1992- is there any way you could rig up a second one?

If interested shoot me a pm with what you think is a fair price.

Wes.

Took about 15 hours including running around for bends and pipe. I'm sure I could do it in 10 or less second time around. At the moment I'm fairly busy but I will keep you in mind.

Excellent job!!

BTW - That is one oily engine under there. ;)

Thx!

BTW - It's well lubricated and has regular rust protection applied.
