This really sucks, I spent weeks reuploading and updating forum posts from my personal host to Photobucket, I was fine with $30 a year (which was about half of my more featured host). But now $400 is way too rich for my blood. Guess it's time to switch to using this forum's built in upload function, too bad there are no way to do albums

I used to have a hosted site myself for all the pictures, but I got tired of worrying about security patches and yearly renewals. Just gonna use the forum upload function going forward me thinks.

It's based on bandwidth, their new TOS applies to everyone (no embedded linking), but they are only actively shutting down active users. My pictures apparently get enough activity to be shutdown.

Same here. Apparently parting out a car and posting related pics will do the trick.

I'm 100% done with photobucket. Their site has been borderline unusable due to excessive ads for a long time now. And now they want $400 a year just to link pics elsewhere? Yeah, GFYS.

Same here. I would have probably paid $50 to not have to move everything around, but $400 a year? Nope. Exported all of my pictures off, then deleted my account. :spin:

I'm not deleting my stuff yet, with hopes they see the light, but in reality they will probably go out of business first.

Well, yeah, that's probably why they did what they did - they aren't surviving on their current business model.. They're hoping they have some customers who are "locked in" with too many pictures to move and who can afford $400/year because they're making much more than that by using photobucket. Sucks for guys like you and me, though..

I think that's the problem with a LOT of sites - give away something useful for free that costs them money (storage, bandwidth, servers), and hope that EVENTUALLY people will "voluntarily" pay. Except that never works - too many people either are poor or are leeches, or in this case, they end up making the price very unreasonable for the majority of clients. It may work for them, or may not..

Wonder if facebook allows external linking of images?

Right I think that's the model, and perhaps people that link it to their eCommerce sites should be charged on a business model like that.

Photobucket has been sucking a little too much for me to even pay $50/yo for their crappy service, at that point I might as well spin up my own host.

EDIT: What's interesting is, some of my pictures are down and some are not. Looks like they are hiding some of my more popular pics and not whole account...

Oh you mean when you posted a link to a porn site in a public forum? Is that what you're referring to?

If you can't make the distinction there, maybe you can spend a few more days/weeks/forever off the site while you think about it? Let me know.

They will host just about anything up there

More insight into the price hike from Denver Post:

http://www.denverpost.com/2017/07/16/photobucket-fee-hike/

Either they assume that people that link to the images are business (that can afford the $399) or they are just wanting to get rid of us nonprofit forum folks. Either way the damage they did will be very hard for them to recover from.

Part of me gets it, but I've never used a site with more BS ads than photobucket. If you do that side of it correctly you make money from the "free" users.

Hell, youtube does it with VIDEOS. An ad pops up at the beginning of videos sometimes. Sometimes I can skip it, other times not. Sometimes an add pops up here and there throughout longer videos.

I deal with it. I understand as a free user sucking a lot of bandwidth, that the ads are necessary. Photobucket wasn't that. Their site was horrible and borderline unusable, and then overnight they want you to pay $400/yr to use it. Um, no.

You hit the nail on the head perfectly, I would pay $50/y TOPS to photobucket for how crappy overall their was.

The only reason I liked them is, they allowed nested albums, I want my car build pictures to be well organized. I wish the forum's built in album feature allowed nested albums.
