BTW, I have a buddy with an older Forester and through the years he had changed tire sizes but the old original spare of a different size remained. He was out of town and his wife had a flat and changed to the spare and then did not get around to fixing it for a month. Just a month of around town driving on one slightly different size
tire damaged his drivetrain! Keep your tires perfectly matched!!
im not sure exactly when the speedo records mileage.... i think your ignition has to be on for it to add on. hook it up and tow it around the block and see what happens.
SOA told me at first that it would not run up miles but then the tech guy realized the ignition must be on to override the steering lock and he corrected himself. I will experiment with fuses to see if I can kill the speedo after the steering is unlocked.
cant the ignition just be in the ACC position to overide the steering lock? i dont think the speedo is on when its in the ACC position. try it out and keep us posted.
Clearly the car is still traveling the distance, whether it be under its own power or not, I have a feeling theres nothing that can be done in order to over ride the cars odo.
+1 for a trailer. No matter what, your car is still seeing those miles whether or not it's running. Excessive towing will wear out tires and differentials. sounds cheaper to me
