05Limited
Yep, it happened... I was on my way to touge fox's house to pick up his coilovers and sways - The light ahead of me turned yellow, I was close enough to not need to slow down - moron coming other direction tries to make it accross, I swerve to avoid and brake - hit him in his right rear as he turns in front of me (coming accross my lane)... Just driver airbag deploys - I get out, fine, go check him out, he's a little dizzy... my car catches fire - I mean ON FIRE! - 10 minutes later the fire department gets there and puts out my molten front end...police and ambulance get there - it's the other guy's fault - he goes away in ambulance...I call touge fox and tell him I'm not going to be needing the goodies anymore... Synopsis: Guy turns in front of me in Jeep Grand Cherokee - I'm guessing both cars totalled, my car caught fire - at least the pictures are cool, I'll take some more tomorrow (the tow-place closed already) Edit: pictures added

05Limited
First pic is me looking back at the car - with the county workers using a SHOVEL to scrape the molten aluminum and plastic off of the asphalt Second two are pics of the car on the tow truck - I didn't get the camera until my roommate came to pick me up - I'll get some good shots of the front end tomorrow morning... Well, I guess I'm in the market for another Legacy GT limited...depends on how much insurance pays.
-TT-
he hit the rear quarter panel of the other car(i think).... fuel maybe?
pillboy
Glad you're OK. Fire is the best thing to have happen...it will be totaled and you won't have to deal with a fixed car that has been effed up by the body shop. It is still ugly. 05Limited
Yeah, I hit him pretty much dead center on his back right wheel - I'm guessing that it was fuel - it sure lit up quickly... under a minute.

meier motor sports
im glad your ok! wow man that sucks about the ride though! so you think the jeep leaked fuel and your car ignited it? did you shut your car off after the accident or was it still running? about how fast was the impact do you think? good luck with everything
05Limited
His car was at least 20 feet from mine when they stopped, I saw the fire start under my hood (well, it was under where the hood was...I was doing between 40 and 50 not sure of the exact speed...I shut the car off as soon as it stopped moving. I did hear the horn short out and start going though...
meier motor sports
yeah that hapens when the air bag blows... hmmm i wondering if your car had a fuel leak or shorted something. if some major electric power wires shorted a fire could have started that way. weird stuff. again good luck with everything. if they find a cause let us know for sure. glad your ok though!! Leonardo
What side was the hit on your car? If it was the passenger side, it was the power steering fluid which is a cause of many fires in crashed Imprezas as the reservoir is behind the tail light and fluid falls on the hot manifold. Could be an explanation.

05Limited
the right of the car seemed to take more damage, but the whole front end was smashed...I think the fire started on the right-ish side... my headers are coated though, would they get hot enough on the outside to light PS fluid?
Leonardo
Yes! If they were coated they are still hot to ignite and if they were wrapped in termo-tec, even more.
05Limited
The power steering thingy is the one with all the steel lines coming from it right? I remember that being exposed, for sure... oh well, I'll go get some good pics tomorrow... maybe my header/uppipe/downpipe won't be too messed up (doubt it) and I can use it on the next leggy. 05Limited
The police officer at the scene said it was clearly the other guys fault for turning in front of me. I'm hoping another legacy gt - depends on how much $$$ I get back though, I might go for an EVO MR or STi if the price is right on one - mainly I want a car that has at least the mods I already had on the car, I don't want to get a slower car! tougefox: I don't know, at least the rear wheels are in good shape, I'm pretty sure - I'll take some pictures tomorrow morning when I run by the towing place... I think at least the front right wheel was pretty scorched though... There should be some cool looking pics, the bumper beam looked like it was running down onto the asphalt.
