m sprank Posted February 23, 2010 Share Posted February 23, 2010 I learned to drive on my old mans 72 510. Used to race for Team Datsun against the BMW 2002's. Screw the SR20 (my dad moved to a SER in 91 first car that wasn't a 510). I loved the 1.6 (2.0 if you swapped to a Roadster engine) with dual SU's (or Webers), big cam, port and polish, oversized valves, forged internals, headers, single hi flow muffler exhaust (no cats back then), factory racing suspension (back then Datsun had a OEM race catalog, no lies), EMPI split wheels (yes from a VW 13's were huge wheels in the 70's). Four on the floor and enough shit and get to smoke a 911 if they weren't looking for it. Hell I even remember how my dads left calf was bigger than the right from running the clutch, lol. Get the 510, I will help build it. I could probably bring dad out of retirement for 1 last hoorah too. Otherwise its gonna have to be a 240z (1972 is the only year to get).
