Motor Identfication - EJ208 - is it an S401??

Hope someone can help

I am having a lot of trouble buying parts for my Subaru. It is not the original engine fitted to the car so when I give the Subaru dealership the VIN number it does not help them.

The engine number in the car is EJ208DWEBE – 1046866

I have been told it may be out of an S401 Liberty

Can you tell me what car this was out of?

Do you know the specification of the engine?

Is there a site that lists the numbers for the s401 or other EJ208 motors?

Any information would be very helpful.

looks like it was out of the BE/BH legacy's. does your's have a turbo?

I am from Perth, Australia

The person I got it from is very confident it is out of an S401. So am really keen to find out what motors came in the s401.

In Japan, things are different. Subaru Technica International (STi), the tuning arm responsible for the hottest Imprezas, also worked their magic on the Legacy. Called the S401, the STi Legacy borrows from the Impreza to create an exceptionally capable sedan.

A 2.0-liter twin-turbo nestles under the STi's bonnet. It's borrowed from the Jap-only Legacy RSK but it's been retuned to deliver 290 bhp at 6400 rpm and 253 lb-ft of torque at 5600 rpm. Harnessed to the Impreza STi's six-speed gearbox , it propels the Legacy from 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds. To cope with this extra performance, STi have also pinched the Impreza's Brembo brakes.

so it could be out of an S401, but it also appears to be used in the non-sti tuned version as well.

not sure on the numbers of the RSK version.. still doing some 'googling' for more info.

looking more, appears as if Only 400 s401's were ever produced... so the chances of that being a 'true' s401 engine are very small.

I know the chances are slim but when the motor came from Japan it had the Brembo Brakes and BBS wheel attached to the frame as well as the twin turbo set-up which all rings true of the S401
