Boostjunkie
EDIT: Pictures of the second prototype are in post #243-244 of this thread. Cliff Notes: Fits perfect now and the tips are bigger and look great. SECOND EDIT: Pics of the final version are in post#450. There are also some crappy vids in post #462. Now better vid clips in post #550! Well guys it's here... or at least the production prototype is. I'll leave out most of my usual rambling, but I do have to note that this a PROTOTYPE. It fits pretty well right now, but a few changes are scheduled to be made to production version. From what you guys will see in the pics, the tips which are currently 2" will go to 2.25" and they will be about .5" closer to each other. The mufflers will also sit about 1" higher to better fill out the bumper cutouts. Anyways, one to the pics: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y207/Pisadong/MeganRacingCatback010.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y207/Pisadong/MeganRacingCatback011.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y207/Pisadong/MeganRacingCatback008.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y207/Pisadong/MeganRacingCatback009.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y207/Pisadong/MeganRacingCatback005.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y207/Pisadong/MeganRacingCatback006.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y207/Pisadong/MeganRacingCatback003.jpg Here is a link to a vid for sound. It was recorded with my camera, so I have no idea of the sound quality. Putfile - MR catback

panamajack
Thats a nice purrr right there. So what will the production tips look like? Also, are the flanges SS to?
panamajack
I think the y pipe is 2 1/4, right Paul?
Mblock66
Hmmm I am not diggin that yet. I think that the tips should just about be touching each other and then you can increase to maybe even 2.5 per and tuck them up there. When is the next "revision" coming?
Boostjunkie
The y-pipe was supposed to be 2.25", but it does look a little bigger to me. I'll remeasure them tonight. The tips are too small right now, but there has to be some space between them to allow them to be welded to the muffler body, so 2.5" just cuts it too close for bumper clearance. Trust me, the 2.25" tips will look perfect. Version 2 should be a couple of weeks out. The changes need to be made and them shipped back here from the factory. Mblock66
Do you or anyone know what the diameter of the Stromung tips are and how far apart they are. It looks like the stromung tips could even be pushing 3" each and that is why they aren't fitting into the cutout correctly. If stromung went .25 inch smaller on both tips they would tuck into that cutout and it would be perfect.
meier motor sports
2 2.5" pipes do cut it close! i had http://www.jegs.com/images/photos/500/520/520-21417.jpg those bad boys on my car and a little bumper melting was going on with 2-1/4'' Inlet, 2-1/2'' Outlet sized pipes

colatkitty
The tips look way too small ... I think 2.5" tips will look perfect. If space to weld is an issue for the bigger tips, they should use piping that tapers down to 2" where it meets up to the muffler body. This way, you'll be able to get the two tips closer together to the point where they are almost touching, which IMHO looks a lot better.
nKoan
Fix the tips are we are talking. Hopefully the 2.25" fit better, but moving them up and making them bigger makes me think it'll be a bit too much for the cutout.

Legasee
Thanks for the pics!! Sounds good, I like it alot!!! (bigger tips FOR SURE, am I going nuts or do those tips look like quarter sized?? lol..but I trust Boostjunkie, he's gonna do the right thing , just make'em nice and big and make it sit higher )... + = I am :D I'm gonna be listening to that video alllllll nite Looks pretty shinny too, I like that! 1. Are you running any down or up pipe? Or is this just a catback only? 2. Do you guys think having that cans painted black (leaving the tips the way they are of course) woul make it look better?... In Taiwan now...
PGT
the tips on the left can don't sit level. for black painted cans
Boostjunkie
Like I said, the pictured tips are more place holders more than anything else at this point. I've got some 2.5" tubing at home. Maybe I'll cut a couple pieces and see how they look. I think that the 2.25" closer together and higher will look just right for those aiming for a more refined "Euro" M5'ish look rather than the usual cannons you see. I think that 2.5" would look good too, but to put a production realistic spin on this, the tolerances to make it look right would be very slim. With the bigger tips, the slightest misaligned, even on the installer's part, and it would look obviously cockeyed or be close enough to do some bumper melting. BTW, my car is going to sound as loud as possible for this catback, as I am running completely catless with a Perrin 3" DP, so there is absolutely nothing muffling the exhaust sound other than the catback. wukindada
Looking VERY good! Wagon fittment? Make it 2.5" tips & I might have to send my $$. Boostjunkie
the tips on the left can don't sit level. for black painted cans It's my shaky hand making it look like that in the pic. They are level in person. Unfortunately, aside from the changes to the tips and refining the tubing for clearance issues, the catback will be as you see it. Realistically you cannot be all things to all people. One person will want one thing and someone will want something completely different. This catback was designed to fit the needs and wants of most people out there. I hope it does. However, the black cans would be an easy fix... get some spray paint! I just do not know if I can wait until winter for the Crucial:( I'll just have to send it to him to have it thermal coated. I'll talk to them about making an extended tip version for wagon fitment. As of right now, that has not been discussed. It's an easy enough fix, that I could easily see it happening though.

MDork
the Y is beautiful but the tips are less attractive than stock imo. i suspect 2.25 will still be too small on a wagon but might look decent on a sedan. thanks for the pics...sounds awesome...
