I LOVE this car!

Recommended Posts

Hello all, newbie here. I just traded in my '02 Honda CR-V for a new '05 GT wagon. I had taken a couple of test drives previous to the purchase, but I love this thing more and more with each passing mile. I spent today running around making appointments for various add-ons. The auto-starter is going in tomorrow morning, XM radio Saturday, the hitch and wiring whenever it arrives, and window tinting early next week. To top it all off, my new GPS (Garmin Quest) came via UPS today! Just fyi, mine is a 5EAT in Atlantic Blue. I've had some very nice cars in my day, but this is the best yet. Did I say I love this car? LOL Again, hello all! Bruce

Congrats sounds like you have a lot to look forward to in the coming week. Make sure you get pictures up once you have everything installed. My friend has Sirius radio and the thing is awesome I'm sure you'll love the XM if its even half as good.

I'm going to have the XM Commander installed in the little (seemingly worthless) cubby in the center of the dash above the radio. It's going to be a sweet install. Head unit measures: 3.75 in W x 4.3 in x H 1.25 in D Where's the "fu" icon? LOL I took a few pics the first night I had her home, but it was already getting dark. It rained all day today so now she's dirty. small teaser pic, first night home

Yes! A wagon - they rule! Welcome to the board. What tint levels are you going to go with and are you doing all seven windows? Also, which auto starter did you choose and what prompted you to install one - think it's cool, but am curious re your reason. The search function is intuitive and fast so that's my first choice - and don't forget to ask questions if you can't find the answers. Someone will likely roger up with the info you need. Again welcome to the board and enjoy the ride. SBT

SBT
The starter I am using is a Compustar that I actually bought new and had installed in a '99 F150. It has a great range of over 1000ft. and is two-way, meaning it tells me what the car is doing. I had the unit installed in my '02 CR-V and it worked like a champ also. There's no need to change now, it's going in the new wagon. You had to ask me the tint question. Hmmmm...I had all the info in my head yesterday after talking to the tech. Minnesota is very vague about their tinting laws. I am going with the legal limit on the front windows and 1 shade darker on the other 5. I'll get more info and post up after it's done. I am upgrading to the metalized finish. It's not necessarily mirror-looking, but it does differ from the standard. I'll post pics as I get them. I'm off right this minute to get my starter installed. I'm going to see if they can hot wire my radar detector at the same time. Later all, Bruce

I'll just echo your sentiment, I love my car too. Love it. I was recently on vacation for about a week and a half in the midwest, and we had a rental Taurus SES. OMG. I was so sick of that gutless pile by the end of a week. When we got back home I was exhausted, but I couldn't go to bed without first taking the Legacy out for a spirited jaunt. It was like having my soul cleaned. What a great car this is.

Did you pick that up from Morries in Brooklyn Park? I was through their lot over the weekend and noticed the same car, I picked up my atlantic limited wagon from there a few months back and was checking to see if it was the one that I originally ordered.

MrVroom, Can you please post hlow they install the XM? I tried to get an fm modulator put in for my ipod and the antenna connectors are all different. I did see the thread on the volvo connectors but nobody has posted that these work. On my wagon for tint i did 35% on the front tow, kind of legal, and 20% on the rest. I also had the Invicta 3M clear bra put on. J

The car starter I had installed is one I've been using since '99. It's very similar to this one: http://compustar.org/products/2WFM.html I originally had it in a pickup, then my CR-V and now my new Legacy. It works great. I spent the whole day today at the audio installer's shop. What a waste of a day that is. I'm glad it was raining most of it. They got the starter installed, an additional 12v power port for my new Garmin Quest gps. I'll try to snap some pictures over the weekend. The Quest came with a very ingenious articulating suction mount for the windshield. I mounted it behind, just low and to the left of the rearview mirror. I had them put a 12v source on the top of the windshield (taped) right along the headliner. It's very obscure. I also had them hardwire my radar detector, mounted low on the windshield just above the dash. Now come the hook. The XM will not interface with Subaru's new antenna connection. My installer called all his sources and he tells me that it's being worked on, but about a month away from availability. I was kinda bummed. The starter is cool, but I had that in my old car. The radar detector is useful, but not new. The GPS is cool, but I have 2 others. I want my XM radio! I have done a search and have not found a definitive answer as to an adapter for the co-ax connection. I'm not willing to butcher the OEM radio. I can wait a month. The hitch should be here next week. Their part number is 90756 I've used these guys before and have had very good service. There prices are smokin'. Tomorrow's gonna be gorgeous. I'm taking a long ride on the bike, probably an overnighter. I need to get my speed fix. Bruce

I have Sirius satellite radio in my car. I chose not to spend the day at the audio shop, hence all the wires on my dash. :D In lieu of a direct antenna connection, you can always use an FM Transmitter, that's what I do. -Nick

There's nothing in it for me, just sending some business his way. Bruce

Bruce -- where did you end up adding the 12v outlet? I've been trying to come up with the best way to mount my iQue. Here's what I've got so far: I've since taken the door off the compartment so it sits better, but still trying to figure out the power mess.
