how to loosen seat bolt on 2011 Legacy

I'm trying to unscrew the seat bolt in my new 2011 legacy? When I use a torx driver the head of the bolt spins but doesn't get looser.

I want to install a goose neck mount on the passenger seat bolt to hold a cell phone pedestal, but can't loosen the bolt.

I'd appreciate any advice.

Regards,

Dan

Hi Dan. You're trying to loosen the wrong thing. The Torx are part of the seat rather than fasteners to the chassis. I just installed an under seat subwoofer today and the correct tool is a 14mm socket. There are four little slide out covers that hide them. I have a favorite tool for removing those trim pieces but I'm not optimistic you'll have one. A screwdriver (standard) and an upturned pair of channellocks might do the trick. Slide those puppies off and away you'll go.

Thanks muchly. I hope that once I find the seat bolts as you described that I can mount a goose neck on the passenger seat bolt to hold a cell phone pedestal. Here is the mount I'm wanting to install:

Hey Dan. Take a look at the second to last photo in this subwoofer installation thread. The bolts go in the very bottom part of the mild steel.

edit - the torx screws are in the upper plastic covered section just over where the bolts are. You're basically peeling a little plastic "door" back to reveal the torx head because that was the first thing you found. Leave that plastic "box" intact and pull the lowest possible plastic cover parallel to the carpet away from the seat. And that's where the bolt is hiding.

edit 2 - the bolt torque down to 40 ft. lbs.

Thanks Pete - that helped me figure it out. I got the cover off, and found that there is a nut on the torx headed bolt. I preferred to install the gooseneck mount on the torx head. By grabbing the nut with pliers I was able to lossen the torx head, install the mount, and tighten it back up. Thanks again.
