Local Guys w/ Turbo Swap

Hey I was wondering what us Tri State people are running for turbo swaps. I'm thinking of going this route and just want to see what the general consensus is... td05-06/16-18-20g/VF52, etc. I'm leaning toward an 18g but dreaming about a 20g.

Creative descriptions on powerband acceleration feeling a plus!

i would love a TD05-20g 7cm type turbo for LI. Rush hour traffic and around town driving, is done mostly under 5 grand. 20g power with a little quicker spool is what i would love. I talked with a member who lived in Nassau who was running an avo380 w/ ewg for street and he said it was awesome. I think id wind up getting an HTA68

Short answer: there is no general consensus only what suites your desires, whatever they maybe. That said, I personally have a hybrid. We used to have frequent meets up by Tarrytown and Harriman where you could actually get up close and personal with these cars. Hasn't been one in a good long while. Guess we're due.

Other than that, if you want to come down to the SQC-NY meet every Tuesday night in Whitestone or the Loews LISC meet, some LGT'ers with turbo swaps are there frequently.

I know HockeyDad has one, and Spec B has one. We put in Spec B's for him.

Yep.

I am running a vf43 (same as vf52- just STI fitment) with injectors/pump/FMIC. So far really happy with the result.

If you are not doing the install yourself..go with AZP..good suby guys that do great work.

Damn, I'm one of the original SQCers, I gotta get out to a meet one of these weeks. Where in Whitestone are the SQC meets on Tuesdays?

Cool, thanks for the responses guys. I'm thinking the 18G will prob be the way to go for me.

Sublo,

I'm at the LISC meets pretty frequently but usually I'm the only legacy there! :-D

I'll try to make it down to an SQC meet.

Gotta admit - I've only been to 2 LISC meets. One was at a charity event in Huntington and the other at a GTSpec BBQ a couple of years go. Have such little time these days.

Mostly DD, I have a beater I take to work. Originally I got this car to get me to and from VT in the winter. So mostly it would be for spirited merges and a few auto-x days. Maybe a track day if I can swing it.

I was pretty set on the VF52 until i saw that BNR thread. Been following it for awhile and seems like the 18G is for me. 20G seems like it may be too much but I would love to ride in a car with either.

I think my stg1 dyno was around 230ish whp(http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66712).

Would it be reasonable to expect ~300 whp with that setup?

Current mods that matter for this:

AVO TMIC, Cobb HFC DP, Prodrive BCS, AVO FP, DW 750

GT Spec BBQ is usually a good time. It's understandable about not making the meets as its a ride for you. The Lowes one is practically in my backyard

The ride is not the problem. I drive out to my Edgewood office frequently. Its the free time issue with 2 little kids, 2 jobs and a nutjob wife.

^^ very true, unless i missed it he didnt specify if he is swapping tmic for fmic. If staying with the tmic then definatly stay with the 18g. 20G on perrin/avo seems to be overkill to me. It will run strong but its going to heat-soak after a short time.

If you have to do a HTA, I believe 07+ might have some kinda sensor close to the turbo that may hit the outlet of the compressor housing.

On my car (2008), the clearance was not there so had to clock the turbo slightly upward in order to give clearance.

You might have to take the compressor housing off and take the aluminum stud out in order for you to clock the turbo.

However, depending on the gasket thickness and the header, uppie you are using, you might have clearance.

Again, this might not be the case for you, but letting you know that my 08GT had this problem. ;)

The RED ARROW is the sensor plug in question.

This wouldn't matter if you go FMIC or TMIC since that's where the silicone coupler gets connected.
