YourConfused
So I have searched a while and have not seen even a mention of putting Koni strut inserts into aftermarket coil over housings. Is it possible? Anyone done it? Link? I have KYB GR2 struts with rallitek springs. I took them off, bad ride quailty IMHO. I put on some BC BR coil overs and one of the fronts blew after a few hundred miles miles. The other one had blown just a few thousand miles prior. I have ordered a new strut but this leaves me wondering how much longer before the other struts blow??? Having Koni inserts on another subie, I was curious and wanting to see if the inserts could make their way into the strut housing body. Anybody tried this or have info to prove this works or is a fail?
bnguyenbb6
It wont work unless you can thread the Koni's.
scoobyscoodle
If you think you can handle some fabrication, go for it. The results would be worth it IMO.
robitrice
i cannot remember what forum/thread it was in but some one had created their own coilover system using koni's and a ground control setup to essentially create a coilover. i know this is a vague response but i cannot be the only person who saw it
underground000
they make coilover sleeves but that requires you cutting the spring base and running sub par/unknown quality springs - springs are supplied bought my first car w/ maxspeed?? coilover sleeves and had koni shocks, road like shit 5eat downshift rev match:) Powder coated wheels: completed:)
YourConfused
I have ground control sleve kit with eibach springs over koni inserts on one of my SVXi and my 240z. I have it this way because my options were limited as was my income at the time of their installs. I did have to remove the spring perch on the SVX, but not my 240z. I have no issue with cutting and welding steel, but I don't have a TIG to weld aluminum. I would honestly be happy with doing a sleeve over Koni insert using the front strut housings if such a thing existed for the Legacy. I missed the UPS guy who has my strut cartrige from BC on Friday, so I should have it some time Monday (note to self: today is already monday) I will take some pics and measurements with my calipers when the thing arrives. Maybe it can be done. I might pull an insert from the SVX to get its OD just for a reference point, just in case this escapade doesn't end in fail. I guess the question I need answered more than anything is this: Is the ID of the BC strut larger than the OD of the Koni insert? Does anyone have a Koni insert that ins't installed that they would measure for me??? Thanks for the comments guys

whitetiger
just buy some real coilovers this. Bunt people have had good luck with ground control sleeves on other platforms. you will be spending over $1K anywyas to make it happen including the konis themselves so getting a reasonable set of coilovers isnt that far away. save up for RCE tarmac 1's. YourConfused
just buy some real coilovers While that is the real long term solution, it is answering a question that that I didn't ask. I likely will get some KW V2's at some point in time, but that isn't the point of this thread.
YourConfused
Understood. I am curious about using the threaded body from the BC Racing coil overs for the ride height adjustments that are not an option when using just a lowering spring on a fixed perch such as the stock strut housing. Yeah I misread that. The short answer IMO is that it isn't worth the $ to try to do it and there are no pre-built or pre-engineered setups out there. -Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/141039922.jpg%5Dhttp://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://upload.pbase.com/image/137566671.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. jamal
ground control makes housings for konis. I would much rather have konis than tein basics or anything else in the price range. The nice thing is you only need the fronts, the rear is a shock replacement. I can't think of any way you would be able to use konis in a BC. I guess you could take the shock apart and see if they fit.

I will have my bad cartrige out in a few days, hopefully, and I can take it apart to see how much room there is inside of it. They look easy enough to dis-assemble thus far. I'll take some pics and measurements when I get time to work on my car next week.

YourConfused
Overtime and getting lazy has prevented me from actually working on my car yet. I have 2 days off next week, so Hopefully I get somewhere with this. I may just order some KW V2's and replace the cartridge when I remove the BC's from the car. who knows...
