Just got into a front end accident....options...conversion? usdm?jdm?aftermarket?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I recently got into an accident with my 08 Legacy 2.5i. I hit a lady from a stop. Her car got scratches on her rear bumper (RX300) and somehow, my entire front got smashed in. Looks like I need a new hood, driver headlight, front bumper, grille, driver side fender.

I know there is lots of information here and I have searched but maybe someone can give me a more direct answer. Basically maybe those of you who are saving up for a conversion, you might have prices, who to order from and links saved somewhere that is readily available.

basically, I know for a jdm/adm front end conversion, you have to replace the fender, hood, headlights, bumper, beam, etc. since I have to replace most of this anyway, is this the way to go? How much do you think I would have to put on top of what the insurance will give me? I saw the assembly from jdmparts.com for 1200 plus like 500 shipping. and this wont include hood, fenders or especially the headlights. Is there someone cheaper I can get this all from or is it possible to get these all from the dealership?

Also, I noticed the jdm spec b bumer and the s402 look different? Or are the pictures I am looking at wrong? I just cant tell anymore because people call them the wrong names sometime .

Or, I have seen the K2 front bumper that i kind of like. Would this fit onto all my oem parts and instead of a usdm front bumper, i would put the k2 on? Only wondering because i may not have the extra cash for the jdm conversion. Or i saw people talking about the 3.0R front end? Does this use the usdm headlights? I know people were saying how you can use a jdm grille etc.

OR I have been looking at the outback front ends with the round foglights. Does anyone have these colormatched on a lowered/hooked up legacy?

I know I wrote alot but I am trying to put down what i know and what i still have questions to. I am a noob, I am an OG when it comes to GC imprezas. I just got my legacy 5 months ago with the intentions of keeping it stock but the mod bug might just get the best of me.

thanks for the help in advance!

Hey, Ironic you had a similar accident as me, instead of an old lady I hit a brick wall...and the wall won. Anyway, I don't know if yo're still looking for answers on how to fix your baby but I'm looking for answers to mine. Sif you had figured anything out since your accident and you're willing to share some knowledge I'm all ears. If not, I'll be looking around and am more than willing to share with you what I find, thanks!

These are the pics, i gotta run but i will respond to why i didnt go the jdm route. I just got an RBS grille , oem front bumper, oem fog light kit, oem headlights, 2.5GT hood and scored a sweet deal on a jdm lip from a member on here.

Turbothat, that's what all the damage looked like. C®azy cause I hit a lexus rx300 and she only had scratches on her rear bumper but because it hit my light, there was no support or impact resistance....so it pushed everything back, like the radiator and all.

They insurance and shop quoted it at 6500 in damages. Crazy huh? Well, I was gonna do the jdm route until I realized/found out that the jdm front bumper looks almost exactly the same as the usdm but it is just shorter a few inches. That is because the usdm crash requirements (didn't help me in this case lol). So the 6500 was paint, labor, mechanical costs, straightening, etc. But of that 6500, I think only about 1500 was designated for the body parts, like grille, hood, headlights and bumper. The rest was misc clips, liners, supports, trims, mechanical, radiator, paint, labor, etc. So, going the jdm gt route seemed pointless cause it is basically a shortened version of the usdm but from afar, you probably wouldn't be able to notice. The only route worth it in my opinion was going the s402 front end. But I remember seeing a thread saying he's waited months for parts and spending 3500 so far. And it could go up to about 7k. I don't even think that includes all the misc clips. Cause on japanparts.com, I think just the front bumper and beam and clips is 1300 plus like 500 shipping. Then you have to get a hood, grille, fenders, headlights. So, I'd be putting in an extra 3+k for a front end. I'd rather get an old gc and hook it up or fix my car, sell it and get a GT. Plus months without a car and no running spare right now, I decided to tell them to do oem parts, a 2.5GT hood(which was the same price as my hood but the hood scoop was an extra like 190).

And then I got an rbs grille which ended up costing about the same as the quoted oem grille price so I went that route. Rbs is discontinued but u might come across them here. I got mine from rommel the vendor. Or you can go with an avo grille but I heard their fit is a lot worse. Or you can do a diy grille. Or an r-rev grille which was my original intention but the rbs ended up being a little cheaper.

And then getting the oem fog light kit installed. I was hoping to color match the fog light shrouds but it didn't ship in time. Ill get the fogs monday but the car went into the spray booth yesterday. They said they might be able to paint it on monday but they'll see.

Instanced, The outback route...it seems too rugged the more I looked at it and flowed more with the wagon type body lines.

Anyway, hope this helps people in the future

Yeah thanks! I might just end up going with the r-rev grille, since I've been wanting one of those anyway. I'll get pics up tomorrow of mine, but what ruined on my car is the front bumper, passenger quarter panel and the grille. Fortunately the hood is all fine so I'm hoping I dodged a bullet on that one. I was wondering, after your accident did your car need a frame alignment? I'm afraid mine might require one and I was wondering as to the price of that service.

Driftmotion, To total it would be 75% of the value of the car. I think value of the car was still around 15k? So it was ok but yeah, I wouldve only gone with oem, jdm or K2.

My support was messed up but the shop said they didnt have to pull the frame. It was a few hundred dollars i think for "frame work" but i think that included just the radiator support and such.

Turbothat, get the R-rev grille, it looks nice. Well, same as the RBS i think.

700watts...this is after a little buff =D ....

Did you paint your foglight shrouds body color?

Yeah I did. But I dropped them off the morning I was supposed to pick it up and I guess they rushed it a little bit because there's a bit of overspray but from a distance they look good. Makes it flow a little better in my opinion but makes the fog lights look a little too subtle in black. If my car were white, I think it would look a lot better but I'm happy I got them painted.

Ps, your car looks nice!

Looks good! I like the fogs alot!

Thanks! Yeah, I have always had fogs on ever car ive owned so it is nice to have em back again

They did pretty good job on it

Thank you man, yeah, I think they did too. I just have to wax it soon. Havent touched it since I got it back

does that mean you will have inspiration to get the avo turbo kit??

looks really nice =) definitely a motivator to go turbo soon...

I dont know, I bought this so i wouldnt modify my car (see my member intro) http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/third-subaru-first-legacy-103192.html?t=103192

because i have spent too much money on my past cars. I need to save money for marriage/house coming up. So this is supposed to be my reliable DD. And Ive put on 35k miles in the last year so i think if I did a turbo, I would spend the money and get another old school impreza as a project car instead.

But trust me, Ive thought about turbo'ing my 2.5i or trading it in for a LGT many times though. Especially when stupid civics, integras, gtis and such pull up trying to race me all the time
