Just FYI... Photo comparison of Dual Mass vs. Single Mass Flywheels

I just happen to have a few items lying around and thought I'd snap a few pictures for reference for the LGT.com crew.

First, I have a brand new '05 - '06 Legacy GT Dual Mass Flywheel (part number 12345AA010) here.....

I also have a brand new 06+ WRX / 07+ LGT Single Mass Flywheel here (part number 12342AA090)....

Weight wise.. the DMFW is 27.8 lbs. while the SMFW is 23.6 lbs.

I weighed these myself... and they are the actual weights...

The clutch and Pressure plate for the DMFW setup are slightly larger in diameter and will not fit on the SMFW.

A few more side by side pictures....

I know this is an old post, but had to ask a question. I was under the impression that the clutch in my 2000 legacy was a dual mass flywheel and should not resurface. Buy searching the site I came across this post and mine does not look anything like the dmfw pictured. Mine looks just like the single mass flywheel pictured above. If I was wrong, and I have the same flywheel above that is shown as a SMFW can it be resurfaced? This will make my day. I will take a picture of mine if I confused anyone.

I was going to reuse it as is because I was told it is not a good idea to resurface a DMFW

Thank you,

Geo

Yes, I surfaced my 07 legacy flywheel when I did my clutch, just make sure they are smart enough to surface both the disc mating surface and the clutch plate mounting surface... they are stepped from each other and mine came back with a .005 stamped on it.

For future reference, any smfw can be resurfaced.

Having said that, I'm sure some one will say but this one FW from so and so car is the only one that can not be.

I love my ACT HDSS clutch and SMFW. It is a little chattery when cold but I'm use to it.

My only issue is that the damn ACT throw-out bearing keeps chirping/squeeking with the clutch out.

I've sprayed a little light grease in there once and it went away for about a month... then came back. Friggen annoying.

It's perfectly quiet when pushing the clutch in.... any ideas?

Ideas? Yes. Don't spray your clutch with grease :spin:

My ACT TOB whistles and sings when it first starts up cold (but only on disengagement) then gradually quiets down and the noise disappears all together. Engagement noise from the TOB is nonexistent.

Hey there. Sorry to bump an old thread but I have a question. I'm putting together parts for a clutch/flywheel swap in my outback XT. Its got a DMFW now and I'm going SMF.

I bought a used SMF supposedly out of a legacy. Its in great shape, but doesn't look like the SMF pictured in this thread. The front (side pressure plate bolts to) is completely smooth where as the one in this thread has a (guessing here 1/4") "lip" around the front. Do I have the wrong one?

FWIW, here's what my Spec Clutch LWFW looks like. Sorry I don't have a picture of it off the engine.

Notice it uses the Trox T50+ Not sure if newer ones still use them. This was the first one produced.

Thanks for the pics guys

Here's mine. What do you think? Very similar but not exactly the same. Not sure if I can use it or not. I don't get how it could be different since all 06+WRX and 07+ LGT flywheels are suppose to be the same.

The numbers are 060, 9, and 8910. Does that mean anything to anyone?
