impreza aftermarket racing seat bracket a no go...

just to update this for the search archive, a wrx seat will not bolt directly into an 05- legacy. the legacy is, oddly enough, narrower than an impreza, and brackets mounts aren't the same location/shape. i know there are threads that have covered this, but none are current or direct for impatient searchers that have a line on a used seat out of an impreza or sti, and aren't sure about direct bolt-in compatibility..

go to wedgeengineering.com for a seat base and check to see if they offer a base that will match the brand of slider/seat you are interested in.

has anyone made an sti seat fit on a legacy base? this would be the way to go for the smaller folk that need a more hugging seat, that would also like to keep airbag and possible seat heaters.

I got a set of version 7 sti front seats and tried to put in my 2.5i legacy. I was manage to get 3 corner line up, but one corner is like 2 inches off, I'm making a piece of metal to extend the bracket so it'll match with the hole.

I also got issue w the airbag wire. I'm trying it w/ some resistors now..

I got 06 sti rear seats on my rear and it's smaller and it has a crack. I bought the side plastic piece of the STI from dealer and need to do some cutting to make it fit well,,,,,

I just finished re-doing my Pass side STI ver 7 Seat. If I tried to line up the 3 corners of the bracket to the lloor, the seat looks not straight/ parallel. The STI seat rails are wider than legacy's and I can not swap bracket or rails since the legacy one looks like welded into the frame of the seat. It also require some cutting in order to be able to lay it straight in the cockpit.

Here's what I need to do for this PAIN in the ass seat swapping: ( I will post pic at night after work)

-Put the sti seat in and look at each corner to see how much space the bracket miss to reach the bolt hole.

- Find 3 pieces of strong metal at work and cut each one into the length I need, they are for extending the sti seat bracket so they will reach the hole.

- Go to ACE hardware to get extra 3 bolts and 4 nuts. 2 regular length close to the stock one, one bolt is -longer for the front left corner.

- Look at legacy seat and the STI seat and ask them why cant they be the same so I can save 10 hrs time to play w/ them..

- I had ordered several resistor trying to fix the airbag and weight sensor wires from the legacy seat. I fix the seat belt wire but not the airbag light.

- So I got to final solution, swap what the legacy seats w the STI seat, safest way to do. I took out all the wires of the legacy seat, plus the weight sensor piece and air bags, also the seat belt buckle since the STI one dont work w legacy's seat belt.

- on the rear left side bracket, (the side of the center console), it's 90 degree sticks out and prevent the sti seat lining up straight, so I used a cutting wheel cut it off. Becarefully when you cut, it'll hurt a lot if you cut your hand. This will be serious injury if you are not carefull.

- Mount everything you took from legacy seat onto STI seat, also need a big ass star key to unbolt the legacy's seat belt buckle. You can buy a cheap set goes on ranch for $10 in auto store.

- Took the extended brackets I made and bolt on the sti seat bracket. Using the bolts and nuts i bought to connect the extended bracket on to legacy seat bracket, save the OEM bolt for mounting the extended bracket to the floor.

- Lay the STI seat in the cockpit. Now measure the position of the bracket comparing to the bolt hole on the floor w a marker since I didnt know where to drill hole on the extended bracket to have it fitted perfectly. After you marked all 3 corners , take out the seat and take off the extended bracket. Drill big hole on the marked position on the bracket.

- Re-attached the extended bracket to the STI seat and put them in the legacy, line up the floor hole w extended bracket, fastern the bolts. Use the long bolt you bought for the front left side since it has a inche gap between extended bracket and the floor. U need it to reach the hole w this long bolt. Dont angle the bolt and force in , that will strip them, be gental. After you done, it'll should be nice and straight and the seat also raised up an inch and half since the STI seat rail designs are like that. Test it out to make sure it's tight. Mine is tight as hell, hope yours too if you are doing STI seats.

You have a lot of room under the seat to hide a gun, couple grenades, and porn mags. And then treat yourself or your friend a nicer dinner. I will put pics up very soon.

I will work on my driver side this sunday, prob will take me 4 hrs on that,,,,,

I dont recommend people to do that w/ no patient or angry temper. I did that because I thought it will be easy but turn out it's not and I'm a man of my words. I told my car he'll get new seats and I need to finish it no matter what.
