Harman Motive Cold Air Intake 05+ Legacy

So basically when I first got my car (back in 04), one of the first items I got for my car was a Blitz SUS intake. At first I loved the whoosh sound of the turbo and the louder sound of the bpv. After a while, I started to get over the intake and really began to get annoyed of the whoosing and hissing noises. Whenever I was getting on an on-ramp, all I heard was the intake and it annoyed the f*** out of me (it felt like the car was struggling just to get on the freeway)

After my experience with the blitz sus intake, I decided to never purchase an intake again and settled with just a blitz panel filter. The car was fun to drive again and I could actually hear my engine and exhaust instead of just the intake.

Just recently I began to look for intakes again since I will be running a FMIC. I looked around for one that would offer the best performance and was quiet. My first choice would have been AEM but I heard too many issues with the filter getting wet and the maf being too small (I will be running a larger turbo).

Then I came across the Harman Motive intake for 08 sti/wrxs. The unit looked very well made and included an AEM dryflow filter with an integrated velocity stack. I noticed that the 08 wrx/stis had awfully similar intake setups with the 05+ legacys. I compared pictures of stock airboxes and everything looked the same. I called up Harman Motive and spoke to Dan and he agreed and said that the intake should fit 05+ legacys. I took my car down to harman to get it checked out by dan and once he saw the stock legacy air box, he immediately said it would fit and said the only thing different was the Maf sensor. He made made me the intake with the legacy maf and I took it to Embee performance to get it powdercoated black.

Review:

First of all, I did not expect this intake to be this quiet. I was dreading that it would whoosh and hiss, but nothing much. Its basically as loud as my stock box with a blitz panel filter. And when you get into the higher rpms, it still doesn't make sucking noises, it just seems to make the engine louder (imagine an intake on a vtec, but not as loud). No cels, no issues with running rich, works with the stock intake snorkel, goes into the fender well but not too low that it gets wet, I love it.

you just have to order the intake with the legacy maf instead of the wrx/sti maf

whats the price of one of these units? and can you please make a video of it on ur car?

my car right now is tuned for an AVO intake+FMIC, so im wondering what would occur if i through the HM intake on with the current tune.

btw im hating on the AVO intake right now.

^^^ No way to know for sure, but you likely would need a re-tune. And if your fmic is an AVO, then this intake will not work. Exactly where the Harman Intake goes into the fenderwell, is where the fmic piping for the Avo, and many other fmic's comes out.

Why are you hating the Avo? Just curious....

Intercooler is custom made by moi. i can take a picture to show you piping directions in that corner.

on my stock turbo i seem to be getting occasional hesitation, as well as stuttering sounds when i accelerate in certain conditions. like in 3rd gear when im already going approxaimtly 50mph and give it gas, it seems to stutter up until the point where full boost is acheived where it makes a nice smooth sucking sound.

Doubt that is the intake, sounds more like the tune.

its only $200

I will be using this on an AVO FMIC, so I really hope it fits

one more thing, it wasn't as quiet as I originally thought (I actually took my car out on the freeway with the windows up this time), but its not that loud
