Gear oil + rear diff oil ?

Hey everyone plan on doing the transmission and rear diff service on my legacy gt 5spd 2005 . Want to use the motel 75w90 gear oil . Was wondering if anybody esle is using it and have pros and cons ? Also for the rear diff will I need any kind of a LSD addictive or fluid ? Or just the gear oil is fine ? Thanks guys

I run Motul Gear 300 75w90 mixed with Redline light shockproof. This is what Andrewtech recommends for the 5-speed and it works great in cold weather.

For the rear diff, the stock R160 is a sealed viscous unit, so you can run any 75w90 back there. A quart of Motul is fine for the rear diff.

Don't use Mobile 1 gear oil, you will get the famous 4th gear grind. I did, and switch back to Extra S and never had a problem since.

 

Truf, but I had problems with Mobil 1 not Moblie 1 :lol:

 

Extra S is magic.

 

I never used Moblie 1 oil either. :lol:

 

It's a double fail.

What's the ratio of Motul 300 75w90 to Redline Lightweight Shockproof?

 

Make that 3 qt's redline and the .8 of the Motul.

 

Or Extra S if the tranny shifts fine.

I run 50/50. I think that is what Andrewtech recommends also

 

It depends on the person.

 

I've run both 50/50 and 75/25 LWSP to Motul with spectacular results.

Any of you guys running the mix of both lubes is it because you started to have issues with shifting or grinding ? Or just running it because you feel it's the best fluid combo? I don't have any issues with my transmission just wanted to upgrade to a good fluid. I autocross and run the 1/4 mile with the car , plus daily driving .

I ran it because it's a good combo. Put it in my Outback almost right away.

When I did my clutch I used the Walmart synthetic fluid as it was the only thing I could find locally in enough quantity to do the job. :(

 

I was having serious issues getting into 1st gear even when creeping up to a light but not fully stopping. I finally switched to Extra-S and that problem went away. I was pretty surprised but I think I will stick with the Extra-S going forward. I used it in the trans/front diff as well as the rear diff.

I have Extra S in the transmission and Castrol Syntrax LSD in the rear diff. The transmission is so smooth with the Extra S compared to whatever was in there when I bought it. Difference was night and day.

Instead of starting a new thread and without searching.. A guy locally is selling 5qts of Amsoil Synthetic Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid on Craigslist.

 

That's not the same thing as the redline LWSP mentioned above is it? Can I use it in my 5mt with the quart of extraS I have sitting around?

 

 

Nvm : straight from BAC "You should NOT use Synchromesh in a Subaru 5MT. Synchromesh is a fluid intended for gearboxes requiring GL-4 fluids."

The dealership can only get you 5 gallon drums.

 

The following vendors sell 1qt bottles. There may be more vendors that sell it by the quart, but these are the first guys that come to mind.
