Fat JDM steering wheel, where to find ?

A few weeks ago I saw a link to one of our vendors for a thick/fat Subaru steering wheel (around $ 400) that you add on the stock steering components. Problem is I've looked at most vendors and can't find it. Tried AVO, Fred Beans etc. Anyone remember where it is is they have seen it.

Thanks

You have to be thinking of the DAMD steering wheels. They are smaller and much thicker at the 9 and 3 o'clock positions. They have a flat bottom and round version, with different colour stitching(red, black and blue). They have a couple special edition edition models as well.

I've been thinking about picking up a flat bottom wheel with blue sitching. PGT has the below wheel on his STI.

I'm not sure about difference between 05~07 and ~09

But this guy in Japan has type A ane he changed newer model's spline.

So he can swap DAMD's steering wheel.

Here are other steering wheel swap.(even you don't read Japanese, keep on clicking)

They are for type D and newer(07+)

Crap that means it won't work on my USDM 2007 spec. B.

I wonder if the usdm 2008 steering wheels controls(or pods) are compatible with 2007?

Audio controls might work but I'm not sure about the cruise control.

I really want to retain my steering wheel controls but love the flat bottom steering wheel. Plus, it looks like I would have to mod for the spline difference...

PGT, would you mind answering these questions?

1) Does the OEM airbag bolt right into the wheel?

2) I'm not sure exactly what it's called, but does the middle portion of the OEM wheel fit on it too?

100% OEM fitment. The controls or covers bolt on, the airbag snaps right in place. Perfect.

As for pimp status....not even a steering wheel can give me that

PGT -

Do you have SI Drive??? I'm super curious if I can use one of these wheels... I really want to keep my S# button!

I love the wheel BTW. All the right curves in the right places; super sexy...

Yes, his STi his Si drive, however, there is no S# button on the STi steering wheels. The only way to change it is via the knob on the center console. So, yes, you'd lose ALL the buttons (S#, and the info display buttons) on your steering wheel unless you custom fit something (which I'm not even sure would be possible).

^ actually, it looks like there is a way to keep them. Look closely at the picture I posted at the bottom of the first page.

This one has them too:

I really wish these would fit my USDM 07... that looks wonderful!

It will fit but it looks like you have change out the spline on earlier bl/bp's but you might lose you steering wheel controls.

I'm guessing the radio controls between the 07 control pods and 08 control pod could be made to work but the real question is the cruise control.

Once, you end up buying the 08+ control pods, spline, air bag cover and maybe an air bag. It could end up being a very costly swap(as if it isn't to begin with). Although, if you could get a cheap used/take off 08+ steeing wheel with those parts included to play around with.......:)
