Bought my cable from Sprank, tuned from Shamar, and I followed his instructions to a 'T' Im running on Vista, its a borrowed laptop (I'm more of a mac guy) And I am at a loss on how to Flash this ECU. I've spent hours with it trying different combos of button pushes and key turns.

When I plug my cable into the OBDII port, it lights up, but as soon as i plug in my green connectors, the light shuts off (not sure if that has anything to do with connection)

I can view my ECU in LearningView just fine, just cant flash the SOB in ECUFlash.

I never even reach the box with "ok" in it to click on right after I turn the key to "on"

Dont know what I'm doing wrong guys. Someone help me out!

Heres what I'm seeing in ECUFlash when I try to test flash the ECU.

Exit all other programs before starting EcuFlash, just in case.

Are the read / write / test-write buttons enabled in EcuFlash?

If not, go to the Device Manager in Windows (control panel).

Click View, Devices By Type in the menu.

Look for "Ports (COM & LPT)" in the list.

Expand it.

What's in the list?

Disable anything that isn't the OpenPort.

Restart EcuFlash.

Follow the other list of steps.

What happens?

If it doesn't work, answer all three questions, and I'll try to think of something else...

Ok NSFW, I went out this morning and tried turning off all COM Ports, the buttons are enabled, and I can see my cable is connected in ECU Flash.

This is what I got:

[11:36:32.877] Using interface FT232R USB UART A400gZWY

[11:36:32.877] interface close

[11:36:32.877] unable to connect to vehicle interface.

[11:36:32.877] interface close

I CAN Datalog, and use Learning View. I hate that there is not a way to check compatibility before throwing away 150 bucks for a tune.

Just spent another 3 hours on this with two more laptops and no luck. I have used a Win 2000, Win XP SP2, Win XP SP3 and Windows 7 machine. The Windows 7 was the only one that I could even get to connect to the car with EcuFlash but still unable to connect to vehicle interface. It looks like I am going to order a Tractrix and get is shipped overnight. Anyone want a VAG-COM cable cheap??? Any other suggestions???

Just an update on this. My Tactrix came today and worked like a charm right out of the box. I was able to flash the ECU with the base map and get the log files back for a revision. I don't know what the issue was but tired every possible combination out there. The Tactrix just worked right from the start.

A recommendation to the OP may be to try installing VirtualBox and setting up a Windows XP virtual machine. That's what I have resigned myself to. In my case, the 64-bit serial adapter drivers for the Tactrix cable are causing conflicts on my Windows 7 machine, which sometimes causes the connection to drop or even the OS to crash. I got around the issue by redirecting to a guest VM running 32-bit Windows XP.

Good luck to you...

this was my problems too with the vag-com cable on my 05 LGT.

I'm starting to think the AP is a better route for me cause I can store winter/summer maps & there's not much bug, from some reading I did it was user friendly to me.

I have yet to hear of any reason to use separate tunes for winter and summer. The ECU has a bunch of compensations based on air temperature and pressure to deal with stuff like that.
