rocco
A) your transmission B) your front and rear diff. Right now my car only ahs about 7000km's on it, but by next summer will have about 30000+ km's. i will want to change the diff+ tranny fluid to something a little better, like Elf, amzoil, royal purple or redline. has anybody had good/bad experiences qith these products? myself i have always used elf synthetic in my engines and Redline for the tranny gear oil. thoughs... There was a long thread I found a while ago when I researched this that has a lot of back anf forth volleying. any idea what the thread was named, i searched with no luck. in the VW world, i know that elf and Redline are king. in the domestics, royal purple seems to be popular aswell as amzoil. Max Rebo
How does the Redline work in the winter? I used it in my old GTI several years ago, and it made the trans. difficult to shift for the first 5-10 minutes of driving. Once warmed up, it was smooth. In the summer, it was like butter, though. For that application, the OEM (also synth) fluid was best for everyday conditions.

edmundu
I use Specialty Formulations MTL-R for the transaxle, and HDS-5 for the rear diff. It is a boutique specialty oil manufacturer that does not compromise on performance for the sake of profit. Phil(Owner) uses nothing but the best base oils and the best additive packs to arguably combine into one of the best oils out there bar none! Duke of Lawnchair
Specialty Formulations looks very promising. Since I own a 5EAT, would the HDS-5 work in the center diff (NOT the transmission)?

Works in both front & rear diff's on 5EAT! He can also make up the specific transmission fluid for the tranny as well. Just drop them a note.... wukindada
Check out this site, I am a firm believer in there products I use the ATF Fluid, Diff & the BG44 Fuel injector cleaner. Been using the BG44 for years:) http://www.bgflorida.com/ Unlike many company's they back up there claims with a real warranty not just talk of one. Toyota 6EATS .........SUCK!!!!!! GTTuner
I'm a Mobil 1 believer myself. 75-90 synthetic in everything. Trans shifts much smoother once warmed up Except I spilled some behind the turbo heatshield, and it ran down the DP. Four weeks and I can still smell it after a highway run. IwannaSportSedan
I've been thinking of going with redline this spring for the 30k mile fluid changes, but I may have to check out these others, like BG44, and specialty formulations... good info. good thing this will subscribe me to this thread.
