DIY - Independent Fogs

This mod will allow your factory fog lights to stay on when your high beams are activated.

It would be advisable to disconnect the negative battery terminal before doing this project.

 

Tools Required:

 

-Wire strippers

-Phillips screwdriver

-Pin or tiny flat blade screwdriver

-Soldering gun

-10mm socket

 

Materials:

 

-1/4" Eye connector

-Shrink tubing

~12 inches of wire (16-18 gauge is fine)

-Electrical tape

 

---1:

Remove the gauge bezel covering the gauges by removing the 4 Phillips screws:

---2:

Unplug the cruise and defrost switches, as well as the fog switch. Now remove the bezel.

 

---3:

Looking at the fog light plug from the back, cut the yellow and blue wire on the bottom left side.

Strip the end still attached to the plug and insulate the other end with electrical tape.

Remove the wire pigtail using a small pin to pry up the retainer from the front of the plug.

 

---5:

Take the pigtail you just removed, the 12 inches of wire, and the eyelet connector, and solder everything together as shown.

Remove the driver kick panel below the steering wheel by removing the 2 Phillips screws and popping the panel out.

Now take your new wire and plug it back into the same slot on the connector that it was removed.

Then run the eyelet down through the hole in the dash.

Unscrew the 10mm bolt that holds the trim piece down and slide the eyelet under the plastic so it touches the metal frame, and reinstall the screw.

Reinstall kick panel,

Plug fog, cruise, and defrost plugs back in,

Reinstall dash trim

Test everything out, the fogs should come stay on with low and high beams!

will the fogs stay on if the headlights or park lights off?

no you have to pull all wiring and rewire for fully independent fogs

How about parkin lights?

so basically you're just grounding that wire that comes out of the fog light switch?

So they will work with the parking lights on, right?

Anyone can confirm if this turns with parking lights on

LOL. So I'm guessin you don't hav this on your car to let me know?

you have to ground the fogs to the parking light constant in order to run them with parking lights on

So which wire is that?

what is it youre trying to do? wire to p.lights and you'll lose the use of the fog button, and fogs will be on whenever the p.lights are on (obviously)

 

if thats what you want, i'll do a write up tomorrow

 

^i wired my jdm fogs (running light, not projector part) to alternately blink with the blinker, so when the blinker blinks, the sidemarker and fog turns off, when those two blink, the blinker is off...pretty sweet light show, lol

Ok. whats I'm tryin to do is. I want the foglights to be able to turn on/off when the parking/headlight are on or off with the factory switch.

I'm goin to try it your way and let you know. I just want to be able to turn on/off when the parking lights and for them to stay on when the hi beams are on. If that makes better sense.

thats what i want, i want my fogs to run with the p.lights, as well as with the lows and highs... I want the jdm lights but i cant see spending that much money i already have just no projector...

Ok. Thats cool. I just hooked it up your way. And it works on high beams now. Now if I could get them to would on the parkin lights. So would it be one of them wires?

yeah, what color are the wires coming from your fog lights?

I know you can't tell the difference. But the first one is the headlights with the lo-beams & Fogs. And the 2nd is Hi-beams and fogs. Now If I can find the right wire for the parkin lights. I will but all good.
