As of 6/29/2011, I have (arguably) the world's best 5EAT transmission! Not by measure of money spent, but by value and performance capability! It has a F1 Valve Body, HexMods Center Diff Bulletproof Bushings, and a prototype front torque-sensing limited slip differential (though these last two are arguably part of the greater drivetrain instead of immediate to the transmission, more-so the front differential if you want to split hairs).

Notice something? The actual 5eat planetary gears and clutch packs themselves are completely stock! Problem? NO! I anticipate and intend to show that the F1 Valve Body is all you need to reliably make 400whp, as measured by a comparably-setup 5mt. That means the 5eat may only be making 470whp, though who really knows unless you get on a well-known dyno...

Why would I complicate the reference point of 400whp? Because I am very familiar with power output of MT setups, and that's mostly all I have to go by. For instance, I know you're probably making 400whp with a well-setup GT30r, or close to it with a FP Green HTA, on pump gas. I know you're probably making 350whp with a properly setup old FP Green or Dom 2.5r. 20G > 320-325 whp. Give or take for certain details of the power system, gas, etc. So, I'm shooting for close to 400whp.

How?

E85.

Looking at my relevant mods list, you will see a few issues to being able to flow enough fuel for E85 on a 20G. Intake is too small, almost maxes out as is. May run out of fuel, as the ID1000s are not quite 1000cc, more like <900cc per popular Subaru convention :( My TMIC has plenty of FLOW capacity, but it has relatively low cooling efficiency due to its size and location.

So I possess/ordered the following:

84mm intake pipe (used, NASIOC)

AEM Dryflow filter 21-2147BF (eBay)

3.5" > 3.0" silicone 45* reducing coupler (eBay best offer)

I have my eye on the following:

Fuelab 545-series Fuel Pressure Regulator

and/or

Kenne Bell Boost-a-pump

and/or

ID2000cc / ID1600cc / FIC 1680cc / FIC 2150cc

Itsme said he will be sending me one of his front mount intercoolers! This will make a huge difference to overall power production, especially in combating heat soak!

Planning also to plumb my EWG back into the downpipe.

Also need new endlinks for sway bars. Also need to paint sway bars. Blue Cobb paint is peeling. Thanks Hotchkiss.

I have a Dom2.5r in a box, was hoping to upgrade to that, but it will have to wait for a little while until other things get taken care of with HexMods/my life. Turbo swaps are no joke with my EWG setup. They take a lot more time.

Two different members will probably be able to ship me their 2008 valve bodies next week. This is the next step for Hexagram Modifications! Very exciting! Hoping to nail the solution quickly, but that all depends on how drastic the update was from JatCo.

Well I ordered new sway bar end links, http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/strong-sway-bar-end-links-cheap-alternative-moog-165314.html

as my front left stripped during my recent trans removal, and my rears make a clunky sound (AVO Adjustable). I'll see if AVO is willing to help me out with that, but somehow I don't think so...

I hear those dom's are real nice, especially being ball bearing. Here's a pic from a dyno run the other day on a bolt-ons 2010 sti, stock internals. 17psi on a dom 3 because of a boost leak (subsequently fixed). 850cc's on 93 oct, tbe, fmic, ebcs, intake

my rallitek bar with adjustable avo's also clunk, they did even on my 09 2.5i. the bar is hitting the control arm. i want a nice firm coilover setup and be able to ditch the bars all together

Well the worst has happened to my computer. After more than a decade of never having had a major computer virus, my laptop got a real bad one. I was able to identify it and cure most of the issue, but it's still in there doing a few things that no software so far has been able to resolve. So long story short, we're going to re-image it, and I'm probably going to buy a desktop computer for my office. The desktop computer will be BLOCKED from LegacyGT.com, as my business productivity is under fire from this automotive obsession! Then I'll still have my laptop for tuning, forums, etc. That and I'll be paying a bit more for online backup and antivirus, better firewall, etc. So that has slowed me down a bit, as I'm on my wife's computer.

I like my new VB, ClimberD!

Thanks for the excellent customer service!

We will be in touch as the learning progresses.

My computer is so messed up... I've never been scared of a computer virus before, but this thing is no joke. 2 of the 3 people I've spoken with about this have experienced it before, and they all said the same thing. System restore just killed my OS, so I'm not loving life right now. New machine gets here on Tuesday, hopefully.

Looking at running Ubuntu on a virtual disk, and running my internet browsers within that. Not sure if it's as safe as just running Linux without Windows, so please let me know!

Funny thing, I got the virus while researching exhaust routing. Go figure.

Going to setup online backup and local and external HD backups as well. RAID is not an option with the new computer, but don't really need it. Just need a windows thumb drive standing by.

In happier news, I will post up when I feel that I have some kind of grip on the 08 valve body, which is here! It's a way cooler design than the 05, I can see why JatCo switched.

I ran AVG Antivirus and finally found the rootkit! FINALLY. Didn't get around to trying Webroot, but I did try several other reputable programs, and they all missed this last rootkit. Even AVG missed it with the full system scan, but got it with the root scan.

Borla XR-1 3" muffler is here, as are all my many summit band clamps. Summit has the fastest darn shipping...

Subscribed.

Sorry to hear about your virus headaches. I'm in a similar boat myself... Got nailed by Adobe's PDF bug a while back, and now I use my laptop for forums only - no email, banking, buying stuff online, etc.

Windows Defender says it's clean, but once you've been rooted you never know... Gonna reformat it one of these days. If you see this account posting Viagra ads on Subaru forums, well, that means I waited too long. :)

So much for the convenience of adding my regular account to the 'administrators' group.

Yeah now I'm kicking myself for lowering UAC so I could streamline installation of new software. Managed to go 2 years with zero issues. Oh well, live and learn.

My old laptop is DEAD (hardware as well as virus on hard disk)

I bought a netbook from my friend, which now has windows 7 and office 2010 and everything I need, though it's no speed demon.

Office computer arrives soon... hopefully... yay!

I could have built a computer for you! You could always CLEAN format the HDD on your laptop then reinstall windows.

Thanks, but no need any longer :) Converting the old laptop's HDD to an external. Putting the RAM in my wife's MacBook (oddly it's compatible). Going to wipe the new dell's hard drive when it arrives though. The Netbook is fine and happy (what I'm on now).

Working on my suspension recently turned out to be a terrible experience. Gave my carbide drill bits and angle grinder a serious workout on my AVO rear sway bar links, and AutoSpeed sway bar bracket plates. The bolts laughed at the impact wrench. Moral of the story, use ANTISEIZE, and perhaps lock washers, or suffer the consequences.

  • 2 months later...

I'm back in Dallas and getting back into the swing of things.

Slowly getting everything updated.

http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=106248&stc=1&d=1317590997

Stikiller,

I did this to handle the rev limiter. Works fine so far, but I'll probably change it later. Makes driving off boost a lot easier, and has that soft rev limiter tapering from 6500rpm full on to 6700rpm a lot less. I did a couple other small changes to make fuel cut more like a honda stutter than a Subaru brick wall slam.

about the hexmods, how's the 08-09 vb coming along? I know you got one for experimentation, what are your opinions on the internals compared to the 05-06 ones?

I'm wondering if the potential gains could be larger than from the 05-06 vb's based on their mechanical differences.

^ well mine shifts almost stupid hard. a bout 1/4 second shifts or less. so ability to shift hard is there. i will tone down the shifting a bit using megashift.

Now that's thinking out of the boxer!

fyi all 05 + legacy's have built in code reader

The 5eat can be made to shift in an instant. It practically does on the non Buckaroo cars at WOT. It's seriously fast, like DANG fast. With Frank_ster's car it's harsh, which is unusual, and I don't know why. He lost the -15* timing pull during shifts when the Subi ECU stopped controlling timing. But I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Just one thought of many.
