98% for sure getting this Legacy(Why are you still be on 56k?)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm new to this site obviously, just purchasing my first car. I'm currently in Arkansas on summer break with my mother, I live in California with my dad. The my dad is trying to get a hold of this guy so he can get the car for me. Ever since my friend took me riding around in his forester, I've wanted a Subaru. So, I thought, hey, this is a perfect time(and price) to get a Subaru right? So, my first car is 98% likely to be this 1997 Subaru Legacy GT. It has 127900 Miles on it, needs new front breaks, and that is about all that is wrong with it. It was owned for the past 7 years by a Subaru tech, he has been a tech for the past 25 years, so, I know it is in great condidtion, on top of that, my dad and step mom went to check it out, and they say it is a great looking/driving car. Now for what you all have been waiting for, the pics!!!

What I want you guys to do, try to tell me what mods this guy has done to it. Aside from the rims, I know that much....

Hope the images arn't too big, if so, mods, please feel free to snip the image tags.

Thanks guys, hope to spend much of my time on here, rather than the headphone forum....

Well, the ebay aution ended today, didn't hit the reserve(4500), only got up to $3650. My dad is going to offer $3800~$4100. I'm waiting to hear from him, if he got it, and I'm waiting to get back to california in 6 weeks!

But, waiting, I was talking about the readers waiting for the pics. I know I like to see pics of cars.

And thanks, glad I found this place, seems like a good forum, nice people, and active!

well just my opinion. From the pictures which is hard to tell. it appears that he has put on a front strut tower bar. you had the engine running and i couldnt see if he has another main pulley on it or not. Appears to have stock struts and stock springs. Stock tophats are in place and too much of a wheel gap to have anything like that. Cant really tell on anything else.

And whats up with the legacy in the garage? i see you guys are ford fans along with subies. nice touch.

OTM.

Sorry I didn't mean to start a war which mainly forum people is all about ;).

Hard to tell much from just pix, but those OZ Superleggera wheels are definitely a good choice: dead sexy + super light weight! Very nice looking car in all! I'm curious, as well, about the newer one in the garage... almost looks like the 2006 specB color to me, rather than the standard BSM. In fact, now that I look a little closer the license plate confirms that, "SPECBGT" - surely somebody here knows who that is, right? Those pictures are from the auction, right?

Seek first to understand, then to be understood.

In other words: SEARCH before you post!

I don't know if he is on the site. I'd ask him if I talked to him(which I may in about weeks when I get back to California). Thanks for the info about the stock suspension, looks like I'll be doing a little changes there. Will I notice a difference between the stock rims/tires compared to the OZ rims/tires?

That is a spec B in the garage. My dad said he has like 4 Subys. Part of the reason why he had to get rid of mine(just made the deal with the guy this morning, still have to get the money to him). Idk what year it is though, pretty new.

God, I can't wait to drive my first car!!!

Nice looking '97 LGT. Good luck. I hope everything works out. If you do get the black Legacy GT make sure you put some wheel locks on your OZ Leggeras if they do not have any.
I'm probably the only person that has Wu-Tang Clan and Paul McCartney on their mp3.:p

Do you have any recommendations to which ones I should put on? I really don't know much about cars, but, hope to learn.

How much are you wanting to spend? Where in Arkansas are you? I'm currently in Pine Bluff and will be selling my 03' Cobb 2.5 WRX in a couple-few months. Would you be interested in it? It won't be anywhere near $3800, so if that's what you're looking to spend then....

Thanks but no thanks. Already picked the car up for $4500, the guy wouldn't go any lower, and there were other people willing to pay higher that we did. But, I'm just visiting Arkansas for the summer, then going back to cali. But, I'm located in Fayetteville right now.

Nice car though man.

$4500. You got a deal. I'd say that car is worth $5000 to $6000 Private Party. 127k miles is nothing on these cars. If you aren't plagued by the Head Gasket failure these engines run.

This is also the perfect car for someone your age. My dad got my brother, sister and I a '96 GT in 2000. It was perfect for the beginner driver. Good acceleration, airbags, not too big, not too small, decent gas mileage. I had until I upgraded to the '99 when I was 18. I like the black too. If I didnt have red, I would choose black. I also just had my brakes done just today. About $250 to do the front. That includes pads, rotors, and labor.

Welcome aboard and don't hesitate to ask. By the way, is this an auto or a manual?

Also if you rubbed a little wax on your foglights it might reduce some of that haze.

I'm going to detail it one weekend as soon as I get back to cali.

Yeah, the black is nice. There is a little bit like quarter size, part where the clear coat is coming off. But no big deal.

And you are right, I have fallen in love with this car.
