pharnos
I didn't want to pay for an adapter like: http://www.world-beatsonic.com/audiovideo_cables/avc9-subaru-aux-input/ http://www.world-beatsonic.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/AVC9_main3-320x196.jpg Audio input cable to provide 2 x RCA external inputs to the factory sound system. Connect MP3, Smartphone, iPod etc. to factory audio. Connects via 8-pin plug behind audio head unit. “T-harness” with 50cm cable length. Suitable for McIntosh and Premium Sound systems. Made in Japan. Compatible with Subaru vehicles: Legacy (May 2006 – May 2009) Outback (May 2006 – May 2009) http://www.world-beatsonic.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/AVC9-.jpg So I looked at making this connection myself. I got this installed last night so thought I'd put together this how-to for anyone else looking at embarking on this without shelling out for expensive adapters. This is for a non-McIntosh headunit - I'm not sure if the McIntosh has a similar setup? Also it's for a facelift BP/BL model so there may be some differences (I guess at least you need an AUX button on your headunit). This may work for other headunits, USDM models, I don't know though. I think the greatest discovery was finding the rainbow ribbon cable wires fit directly into the factory i85 connector! http://i.imgur.com/8n8X9LC.jpg
Skbramham
Where do you get this from?
pharnos
Where do you get this from? The i85 connector already exists and is connected to the headunit for the steering wheel controls. The wires and cables etc? Any electronics shop will be able to help you out. I guess somewhere like Radioshack in the states. You only need: 3.5mm socket with cabling (or if you want you could wire in RCA connectors directly, or a 3.5mm plug on a long cable straight to your console box, whatever)The rainbow ribbon jumper (female) wiring Tools: scissors/wire strippers - cutting and sheathing wires.pick - to open the i85 connectorconnectors (female/male) - connecting the wires from the i85 connector to the wires from the 3.5mm socket.soldering iron - not required, I used it though to tap into the headunit ground wire.electrical tape - wrapping bare connections / tidying up bunches of wireszip-ties - tidying up bunches of wires Or do you mean the diagrams etc? I found a few from Russian and German websites that were not too complete. I took the best from both and created a new one in English.
