I find that theory easier to believe since I personally have never blown a bulb, and I unplugged my DRLs a week into owning my car.
I would discredit your theory. I disabled the DRLs 2 days after I bought it. Blown driver's bulb at 19,971 miles. Further, the dealer wanted over a half hour to change the bulb if under warranty. I ended up buying the damn bulb instead. Pissed me off.
