I find that theory easier to believe since I personally have never blown a bulb, and I unplugged my DRLs a week into owning my car.
The rattles are due mainly to the fact they made the frame stiffer in this car and ignored what that can do to everything that attaches to the frame, body, interior etc.
I live in Canada and have had DRL for the last 15 years.
500,000 kms or 310,000 miles with NO BULBS BURNING OUT. You Americans are just slow at accepting change. FWIW my LGT is the only car I have owned that the DRL have annoyed me. Sometimes I think I have the lights on when it is only the DRL. No other car I have ever had did this.
