The normal process is to drop the oil pan and look for metal.
Replace the oil cooler, which the oil filter screws on to.
remove the banjo filter prior to the turbo.
If you have metal in the oil pan. your best bet is to rebuld the engine. Some have got lucky, with just flushing the oil system, but the normal is a rebuild.
You should be fine with just getting to o-ring for your intake inspection. THe new o-rings will be bigger then the ones that came in the early years.
