I'm sure it can be changed out, but it's not an easy. I want to get it done because I'm 30K over my replacement interval and I don't want to run into any issues with oil loss because the valve itself is not working properly.

Isn't there a small (8mm or 10mm ) that holds the dipstick in place? Or are you trying to extract the dipstick from the oil pan after the pan is out of the car? FWIW it's held on by a compression o-ring at the base.
