QD Electronic Parts Cleaner by CRC works great for removing any kind of gummy stuff (petroleum-based included) and is safe on paint and plastic. I always keep a supply on hand.
Why not just make the dealer take it off? When I took the dealer sticker off I didn't use heat and used goo gone to take off the glue. That probably wasn't the best thing for the paint, but whatever.
