Yeah the strut situation is pretty miserable. I really don't think those KYB replacements would make much of a difference. As mentioned KW's are the ideal for people that have to deal with winter because of the stainless.

There are a couple of cheaper non-chinese WRX coilover options someone should definitely try...

Tein Basic - DSS80-LUSS2
Tanabe Pro-S0C - TSC162
H&R Street Performance - 29040-2

Also everyone raves about the 04-07 STI Suspension Techniques (ST) Speedtech coilovers on Nasioc. KW bought ST and now they are the more budget focused coilover, zinc plated versus stainless steel etc. Someone should lobby to them to see if they could make a set of German engineered and manufactured coilovers for the same price point for the 5th gen. Think $850-$950 range. Maybe someone can go visit their Cali office.
