If you are running a harsh suspension setup and or low profile tires with low UTQG rating, then alignment will be a bigger factor.
For example when I ran RE050A's at $330 each with a 140 treadwear rating, I got an alignment every 8,000 miles. Coincidentally, that is about how often I had to change rear tires. Rears twice as often as fronts. I didn't want any kind of uneven wear.
With the legacy, I'm running $110 tires with a 340 treadwear rating. Unless I actually see significant uneven wear or adverse handling characteristics (which is hard to tell with so much sidewall roll) I'm not planning on doing an alignment until I get new tires...which may be in 20,000 to 30,000 miles.
