8k is fine. He's referring to the 2009 OCI which is 3750mi.
Your tire wear sounds reasonable. Assuming the tread started at about 10/32nd (typical), you've used about 1/3-1/2 to a wear bar at 2/32nd. I'd say your well on pace to exceed 50k miles, which is standard for OEM tires.
Your tires will see the snow and rain performance degrade as they wear. Depending on how bad conditions you drive in, you may want to replace at about 2x the wear bars. Since you're in upstate NY, you might want to consider dedicated winter tires anyway.
