fredrik, absolutely Right On. That's the oldest trick in the Book: "Where do you want to be on a monthly payment" for instance or something like that.

Use as a starer point to get a good grasp on the Dealer Invoice price. Costco membership services, AAA, BJs )I guess they have a similar service to Costco's) can work in your favor. But spring it on the Dealer at the end of your negotiations. I saved over $40 / month on a Costco referral Dealer for my Infiniti 2007 G35X lease . I shopped 5 dealers - each with 5 different numbers ... Squeeze....squeeze...If they detect You really are a Buyer, a good salesperson won't let you out the door. I haven't done it, but many are using the Internet to buy cars. Put yourself out there and dealers will bid for your business. You have to drive some distance to pick up the car and of course, the trade in values will vary. That is a major part of your deal where a lot of leeway exists.
