It sounds like you have allowed the start of a snowball rolling down the hill and as it gets bigger your engine life is rapidly having a date with tons of snow.
I hope I caught it in time and this hasn't cause irreversible damage. Since this is my first Subaru I purchased the extended warranty. I will continue to allow the dealer to do the oil changes. To make sure they are on their toes. And I will be more diligent on keeping an eye on the oil level.
