Better get it in writing that they say it's ok. If you have a problem with the AWD system later and Subaru denies it because you replaced one tire- good luck getting the dealer to stand by you.
That fact that they recommended 1 tire on an AWD vehicle without mentioning shaving it down to me screams look for a new dealer.
