On a side note, do these boxers just hate starting in the cold? It seems like the starter works a little harder. My Jetta with 0W-40 started far easier in the winter on a weaker battery.

Put in block heater you can buy from subaru for $40. Great investment, battery and start thank me, especially being on E85. I just keep her plugged in over night starts right up no hesitation in the cold especially on E85.

Starter mechanism as in the whole starter motor? I've taken the starter motor off to change clutch never really looked into lubing it?
